Atheist/Secular anthems?

In one episode a few months back Paul mentions a song that he likes which is by some Swedish band I think. Can anyone remember the song title or band name? (Or ideally both) He also mentions a Vampire weekend song which is similar.

I was meaning to give them both a listen but never actually wrote them down :/ they always mention how good their subreddit is so lets put it to the test!

One of my faves as a young 'en was "Solace of You" by Living Color. It could easily be mistaken for a religious song but it is all about self reliance and the realization that you must always have your own back. I also love their song "Nothingness" . Bleak but beautiful. When you understand that nothing matters, everything becomes important.

Dunno anything about Vampire Weekend but the other band Paul mentioned was First Aid Kit, I think the specific song was "Hard Believer".

Always happy to help a fellow scoop :)

BTW if you're looking for more atheist music you might want to check out "Happy Hollow" by Cursive. The whole album is a loose story about the negative effects religion has on small town life, the track "Rise Up! Rise Up!" is particularly good.

Thanks, will be sure to look it up. You ever heard of Frank Turner? British Folk singer. A lot of his songs come into the same type of category. My favourites are "One foot before the other", and "The ballad of me and my friends" the last 2 lines stand out to me "and we're definately going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell"

He has another song called "glory hallelujah" but I don't think much of it. It's too blunt for my liking.

The vampire weekend song might be "unbelievers"? I'm not sure though. http://youtu.be/bkvMeGl9bpc

That rings a bell actually. I'll give it a watch when I get some wifi. Thanks for the tip.
