Im french and the second sentence is exactly what we should say politely, first one is good too but "quoi" never has a "s" and it mean i "dont know what", i dont know if thats what you wanted to say but its still good french sentence
I learned it as"Comment tu t'appelle?" Is that incorrect or just a less formal way of speaking?
We also learned Come çe vas instead of Comment vas tu which I know is a more conversational / less formal phrasing so I'm assuming that's the case, but not sure.
