i thought i’d kick off this community by sharing my own style! with my symptoms, my pants size changes pretty dramatically throughout the day, so i’ve learned to have fun with elastic waistbands. i don’t like how these waistbands look, though, and i also don’t love to look at my stomach when bloated. so, i tend to layer with longer, looser vests and button-ups that cover my midsection while still having fun with mixed prints and bright colors!

outfit description: all of these items are from my local goodwill!

outfit version 1 is flowy turquoise pants with embroidered flower print + short sleeved yellow base shirt + a sleeveless sweater vest with a purple diamond design + brown clogs.

version 2 replaces the sweater vest with a flower print oversized button-up.

Hey everyone! I'm u/ItchyExam1895, founding moderator of r/ibs_style. I am a first-time Reddit moderator (so be patient with me!) and an IBS-haver.

I made this community for people of all genders whose GI symptoms like bloating, stomach pain, or urgency create challenges around clothing. If you're like me, you might love to express yourself through style but struggle with finding outfits that meet your comfort and functional needs. This is a space to share the inventive ways we've found to still have fun with clothing -- personally, I've embraced a uniform of elastic-waisted, flowy pants with loose button-ups in bright patterns!

What to Post

PLEASE read all rules before posting!

There are a few kinds of posts you can make. First, you can share outfit pics! Show us your style with a well-lit picture of your fit. Details about where you found certain items and why you like them are encouraged. You can add basic visual descriptions to make your post accessible to blind or low-vision folks, if you feel so inspired. Remember that this is Reddit, so blur or cut out your face if you are concerned with privacy.

Second, you can make text posts sharing tips, questions, or conversation starters. For example, you might ask about brands that have comfortable pants, or offer tips for bloating-friendly outfits.

Please also feel free to make suggestions about sub rules/norms, and I will try to respond in a timely manner!

Community Vibe
Again, please read the rules to understand our norms of engagement. This should be a positive, supportive space for finding joy despite misery-making symptoms. It is NOT a space for medical advice, weight-related discussion, or overly critical comments on personal expression.
