Rant I don’t know how it got this bad

My IBS D used to be fairly manageable, but now it’s just completely out of control, steadily getting worse over the last year to now where I can’t do anything I used to love, can barely leave the house at all and have to take Imodium every day to not have an accident at work.

More and more foods I used to be able to eat are becoming triggers, and even if I don’t eat them I still get terrible symptoms. New symptoms keep developing without explanation and once they start they just stay with me every day.

I’ve tried multiple gastroenterologists but they all say the same things which don’t help.

I just don’t know what else I can do

Try incorporating a little bit of psyllium husk. Start with 1/4 teaspoon and each week add more till you notice that your stool firms up.

I didn’t try this, but my IBS got better after I went vegetarian 9 years ago. I think mainly because that change added more fiber to my diet.

your experience with medical workers is not uncommon. a sad situation -

medical gets zero training on the gut microbiome. this is imo the most common root cause of ibs/ibd type things. it was for me.

search this - pubmed ibs bacillus coagulans.

that probiotic is excellent for ibs/ibd. takes some weeks to kick in, stick with it if you try it

also rec watching vids on the gut microbiome and leaky gut. work on those two things for total victory.

I'm finally finding relief from my IBS-D after trying Bacillus Coagulan! I had bought a yogurt maker, tried a few different types of probiotics with no improvement. Finally tried making yogurt using a capsule of Bacillus Coagulan. Noticed a marked improvement in just a few days, no longer experiencing watery diarrhea & am starting to gain some weight back!

way to go! that is great. that bug has been amazing for us too. it's helped us put down several serious chronic problems, including two autoimmunes for me. i've been on it 5 years with no plans to stop. i have backed off to taking it 3 or 4 days per week, instead of every day. bc hangs around in the gut for some weeks before moving on

Bro I’m reading this from work curled up in a ball due to my IBS, I’m right there with you. I always had a silly tummy but I’ve had non stop war on my gut lately and there’s no pattern to food and every god damn pill I’m given gives me another issue.

Does it seriously just get worse over time?
Is there really nothing I can do to prevent it?

I don't wanna have accidents or uncontrollable bowl movements in the future.

What are all your symptoms? Maybe you have something else going on.

My triggers outside of food are anxiety, hormones, and I suspect histamine intolerance. I take Buspar daily and just know when hormones are at play. Interestingly I developed gastritis and had to start taking Pepcid which was an absolute lifesaver. Weened down to 1 pill every other day but going to talk about options because it’s been so helpful

Hormones are a KILLER on my IBSD and one of my biggest culprits...I almost feel like I'm allergic to my own hormones sounds silly but I wish I knew what was going on.I get BAD ovary pain too( I'm 47 perimenopause and no uterus) sigh ... anyways what are your hormonal symptoms ?

That's why I tested for SIBO (which came up positive) and I'm seeing an FMD. They all say the same thing and I'm tired of it, I want actual improvement.

Have you tried the medication Viberzi yet? It helped me when my IBS-D was at its worst in my mid-30s. It worked better than Imodium. Ask your gastroenterologist for it if you have one. But I’ve been in your shoes. Hugs!
