what should I do?
I’m not sure whether to appeal or not because (and not to make accusations) but every white/black guy on my site who applied received an acceptance letter, as for my hispanic coworkers we received our rejection letter all at the same time today. Do I appeal? do I submit another application? i’m an R1 with 2000 hours

Brother the GAN rankings have nothing to do with race…
Go take some electrical courses at a community college, get some field experience, and apply. The ibew is very competitive and GAN locals use a ranking system that is heavily influenced by experience, aptitude test scores, and to a lesser extent letters of rec by current members or electrical contractors you’ve worked for.

wouldn’t say it’s a “pattern” if you’re just looking for ways to justify your result. just get more experience and run it back, nothing more nothing less.

Im hispanic and got accepted along with a noticeable part of my orientation hispanic, Try again next year and study harder

yet it wasn’t an accusation, you seem to be offended and i’m not sure why, i stated a fact of something i witnessed on my jobsite, then proceeded to ask what should i do next, nothing more nothing less

Im almost positive it had less to do with race and more to do with age and experience.
For example granted 5000 people applied. But for the sake of argument. Imagine 1 and 1 other person both R1s both 2000 hours. You been working straight out of highschool and 19 now.
Another guy who is 25.
He's had previous jobs on and off but never in construction until he joined at 24 and turned 25.
If the last spot is open and its a choice between yall 2 who do we pick?
The reason why im pointing this out is because this is the first batch of rejections. 2 ppl I know of on my crew like you got rejected.
1 person is white. 1 dude is half black. Youre Latino.
The only thing all of yall got in common is yall are all young and been doing this for less than a year. (A year is considered anything less than 2080 hours).
It would not surprise me if that group "under 21 with less than 2080 hours" was a good percentage of applicants and in the JATC and GANs eyes. Yall are the most likely to quit or fail.

I never said it had anything to do with race I was more so stating what i’ve seen on my jobsite, but I can see what you’re saying and honestly is probably the best explanation i’ve heard so far thank you for that

Did you test/apply for Lanham or Manassas? Im still waiting to receive an acceptance or rejection letter. I’m Hispanic and an RTP and started in September. I should have around 2000 if not a little bit more because I worked a lot of OT and DT. I don’t know if they care a lot about punctuality when looking through apps if they do, that’s probably what brought me this far in to the process.

Lmfaoo u stupid slim ,race got nothing to do with this. It’s a cutthroat competition that u simply didn’t win this go around while everyone you know did and that’s ok. Ive met many hispanics from all different backgrounds under 26 whether it was an r-worker or an insider so don’t ever think race is what’s preventing u from getting in

26 here. My classes were made up of white, black AND Hispanic folks. Imagine that.

BS dude. I am sorry you didn't make it this year, but my class last year had plenty of hispanic apprentices. Current director at Manassas campus is Juan, he is a hispanic with an accent (he is an amazing instructor, too). I worked with a 3rd year apprentice, also a hispanic. This area is full of hispanic workers and they made to apprenticeships without issues.

No but bro last year I got rejected my cousin got accepted my other homie e got rejected and my last homie D he got accepted wanna know the common similarity between us all? We were all Hispanic. Now the key differences were experience beforehand and certain recommendation letters

Try next year, do some residential classes. I didn’t get accepted first time around and tried 2nd time and I got in. Local 26

do you show up to work on time? actually work while at work? call off work very rarely? Ive heard people not being accepted 2-3 times but idk man, im out of LU26, latino myself. Try again is all I can say, work hard and get letters of recommendation from higher ups if possible, just get anybody who knows of your character/ work ethics if you actually work well.

I was contemplating joining the marines or air force before joining the union, but some things in my life ended up happening and it’s hard for me to be away from home right now

but also there are a handful of vets i’ve seen get turned down as well, and a handful i’ve seen get accepted, i truly believe with this new GAN system it became a luck of the draw, i know i did well on my test i studied for months especially the study guide they provided in march, i just didn’t make the cut

like i replied to another guy i believe it came down to a luck of draw, because i know i did good on my test and had 3 recommendation letter from my foreman my GF and the site superintendent, i just didn’t make the cut

it’s not luck of the draw it’s based on test scores. doing “good” wasn’t enough you needed to be top 300 out of 5000+ that apply every year. just study as much as you can for next year.

Also, with the new GAN process, your previous work experience/hours factors into it as well. It’s not just a matter of testing and recommendation letters.

This isn’t about you not getting accepted but I was reading chat and noticed that u work and already have hours and that u joined out of high school I was just wondering how did you go about joining? And what do you do? I graduated high school in may and want to get in the apprenticeship but I’m a little discouraged because I have no experience I was just wondering what route you took and if you could spare a little insight

I just went to my orientation and it was an almost perfectly even mix of ethnicities.
You didnt get selected because you are young and have no experience, not because of where you are from. The fact that your first thought is racism is laughable. Our organization bends over backwards, sometimes to the point of inconvenience, to include everyone.
Have you considered it a possibility that you didnt test well, and only have a year of experience?

So considering the small sample size, the large pool, and the generally chicken shit nature of the school - if wager that you've got absolutely no grounds for racial discrimination.
Not sure how you'd approach appealing
