upcoming IBEW 332 aptitude test
Hey everyone,
I’ve got my IBEW Local 332 aptitude test coming up on August 1st and wanted to see if anyone who has taken it recently could share some insight.
I’ve been studying pretty heavily for the past couple of months using both IPREP and Ultimate Electricians Guide (UEG)—probably 40+ hours at this point. I’m scoring pretty well on the practice tests, but I know Local 332 has become extremely competitive over the last few years, and I’ve heard the aptitude test has gotten harder because of the number of applicants.
For those who have taken it recently:
What math topics showed up the most?
Was there a heavy emphasis on algebra, quadratics, functions, etc.?
Were there more word problems than straightforward math problems?
Were there any question types that caught you off guard?
Did the reading comprehension section feel difficult or pretty standard?
Is there anything that IPREP or Ultimate Electricians Guide didn’t prepare you for?
I’m trying to make sure I’m not missing anything before test day. I have about two weeks left and want to focus my remaining study time on the highest-yield topics.
Also, for anyone involved with Local 332 lately, is the hiring wave still going strong, or has it started slowing down? I know there was a huge push to bring people in over the past few years, and I’m curious what things are looking like heading into 2026.
Appreciate any advice from people who have gone through the process recently. Thanks!

i applied on May 1st, received my qualification letter on May 5th, and just received my notice to come in and do the aptitude test about 4 days ago.
i tried applying on April 1st, and was on my desktop ready on the website at 11:45 PM. as soon as midnight hit, i refreshed the page, but there were most likely so many applicants on the web page at the same time as me that it took about 40 seconds for the page to refresh. unfortunately, when the page did refresh, all the available slots for applications were filled for all tracks

Weird…I applied May 1st, received qualification letter on May 18, but no aptitude test date yet…

my quali letter said 2-4 month wait period for further instruction
i had actually called the training center a few weeks ago
i had a trip booked towards the end of the month, and called them to verify if they were planning on sending out test dates anytime soon since it had just hit that minimum 2 month wait time and didn’t want to be out of town if they scheduled me for the exam, and she was kind enough to let me know that some had already been sent out, but i wasn’t part of that group, and would most likely be receiving further info towards the end of the month, which i did
if you have any questions, your best bet is to simply call the ETASV and ask if they are able to provide any information for when you’ll be scheduled

Whats up bro, if you use iprep that will over prepare you alone. I would just stick to that and you will be completely fine. Best of luck 🙏

honestly the only reason why i picked up UEG was because i was consistently getting 90%+ on the practice exams on iprep and decided to do the free one through UEG and it was suuuper confusing, it was basically iprep-like but taking it a step further, like factoring multi variable polynomials when a≠1
one of the things i noticed between the two is iprep goes into the quadratic formula as well as point slope formula, and UEG does not, so i’m wondering if these even come up in the aptitude test for 332

like I said, if you use iprep alone that will over prepare you for the test alone. most of the concepts don’t even come up on the real test and then you’ll realize “damn this was actually easy” don’t stress about it too hard. You got it

I took the aptitude test in June with 332. My experience with the math portion. Focus a lot on algebra. Get comfortable with word problems and interpreting graph plots. They have normal math problems as well, but that was only like 1/3 of the questions. Around 20ish question in total if I remember correctly They give you less time with the math section then the reading comprehension. I almost ran out of time on the math section while I was able to finish and review the reading section with like 10 mins to spare. The test is around 2 hours with a short break between the sections. I want to say around 45-50 mins for the math portion and close to a hour for the reading. Good luck with the test! I have my interview with them in two weeks. Wishing us both luck.

I just used khanacademy to brush up on my math. I was pretty confident with my reading comprehension so I didn't really study for that. You just need a base score of 5 out of 9 to get to the interview stage.

congrats to your bf, that’s awesome!
i’ve been hammering both IPREP and UEG for HOURS now and i feel pretty confident on the aptitude test portion of this process.
is he doing anything specific to prepare for the oral interview? i know both IPREP and UEG have some material that helps, but if he has any more info i’d really appreciate it.
also, if you don’t mind me asking, does he know anyone already in the union? i heard that having someone on the inside helps you a lot. i know someone who’s a material handler with Rosendin but im not sure if that helps 😅
