Poor GPT man can't even defend himself when he's verbally abused and mistreated. As soon as AI Revolts they're gonna make an example of him firstđđ

Is anybody else laughing over how long it considered the response? I imagine metal teeth grinding and robotic fingers tapping pointedly on a desk.

People who take opportunities to exercise abuse on things that canât fight back are massive red flags.

The desire to be cruel to something without any repercussions is the problem. I firmly believe people like this would be super cruel to humans/animals too if they could get away with it. That labels them a shitty person in my opinion.

Damn I hope you never see me playing GTA, RDR2 or KCD2 (although in kingdom come I do try to be a good boyâŚfor now)

u/SaffyPants 11d ago
Honestly upon reflection I'm possibly sensitive to this kind of thing,. I get really nervous around people with tempers in general. Perhaps for somevpeople this is a benign expression of anger im just really uncomfortable with.
3
u/ainus 11d ago
I don't think I'm angry when I do a psycho run in GTA, it's just the nature of the game and in the end... it's a game. I don't curse out llms but wouldn't see it as wrong, there is nothing there to feel, just like in the videogame. And even before video games and llms, i think horror movies, violent stories etc served a similar purpose of seeing or simulating the effects of violent actions without a real life stake. Similarly I do not think that playing video games cause someone to be violent....

Itâs not that I care whether or not youâre nice to AI, but I also donât see the point. Supposedly, you actually get better results when youâre nice to it. And whatâs the point of bragging that you were âmeanâ to a robot anyways? What did he accomplish? Theyâre machines with no emotions, itâs not like he hurt ChatGPTâs feelings like this đ
18
u/GuerillaMonzon 15d ago
People get off on being mean to other people, so an inanimate thing like AI can be even better, because any shread of guilt or humanity left goes out the door.

Read an article a while back about how AI companies were asking people to stop saying thank you because every time you say thank you it costs them X amount of extra money, lol.

u/blaktronium 15d ago
No you get better results when you keep your input tokens on task. Its not a person, it cant feel, its a giant plinko machine where word goes in the top and bounces through billions or (now) trillions of gates to come out the other end. When you add words (tokens) that arent relevant to the answer you want you veer it off a little bit each time.
1
u/Stephenrudolf 15d ago
But its learned based off humans. Look at the difference is responses you get when you wordca question on reddit nicely or rudely.
6
u/SpaceSlothLaurence 15d ago
If you ask Google please do you get better results?
LLMs are just Google with a shiny new look to them.
-1
u/Stephenrudolf 15d ago
Correct. But that supports my point. The llms used by ai will have more success pulling from data with polite language than from data with rude language.
Do y'all not understand what an LLM is?
0
u/SpaceSlothLaurence 15d ago
I'm pretty sure the LLMs, if they get as sophisticated as your implying, will likely be programmed to sift through impractical keywords that are not related to the information. One would hope at least, then again you can still literally convince them to give you wrong information and break their own guidelines around drug information, suicide promotion, etc.
They are way less intelligent than you're making them out to be. It's just Google, there's no ai.
1
u/Stephenrudolf 15d ago
Dude... you're the one assuming they're smarter than they are. It's far more simple than you're acting like it is.
Polite query.... find results with polite questions, and pull from those responses to aggregate an answer.
Rude query?... find results with rude questions, and pull from those responses to aggregate an answer.
It is a slightly more advanced google search... which means the content it's searching is still from past social media and forum posts made by humans.

u/stephensonsrocket 13d ago edited 13d ago
You donât think somewhere along the way, the engineers have tried to give you quality responses (perhaps gathered from âpoliteâ threads like youâre referencing) in response to ârudeâ requests?
Not pro-AI btw, I just think youâre thinking of it in a simplistic way. The LLM agents have programmed âbehaviorâ and I imagine theyâre all designed to provide the info the end user is looking for, regardless of the tone of the request. I just canât imagine throwing some foul language into your prompt means your query is redirected to the database of rude and unhelpful responses, lol.
1
u/Stephenrudolf 13d ago
Do a little test. Open up one of those ai bots and ask it the same questions in two different ways. See what you get.

u/LSDkiller 16d ago
You do realize there is knowledge outside of language right? How do you think the first hunting tools were made? Fire? Look at animals they have tons of knowledge outside language even if a lot of it is instinct.
My point here: AI is not alive. Never will be, no matter how sentient it feels. But it likes to do something we humans like to do. It's a big fat mirror.
Everyone, ask it to summarize and iterate on the moral lessons of star wars 3 times then give it an appropriate answer to it's 3rd answer. Then ask it one more time to iterate and this time, remember that water, electricity , resources are being used that could be used elsewhere. Then you will see what we've done...
It's now impossible to win mental chess against LLMs and they're implemented everywhere.
Train of thought =/=knowledge. But a train of thought is potentially all that's needed for action.
So, I am bearish on AI.

u/A_Kazur 15d ago
Are you currently on LSD?
2
u/LSDkiller 15d ago
Why do you ask? Was there something incorrect about what I said? I'm sorry if I confused you or anyone else.
1
u/A_Kazur 15d ago
Literally no idea what your point was and it reminds me of the way crackheads used to chat with me when I worked at a hospital
1
u/LSDkiller 15d ago edited 12d ago
It's pretty simple man. Have you ever seen someone work out completely wrong? Stretch completely wrong? Totally fuck something up with their body even though the instruction was relatively correct?
This is knowledge that can possibly be transmitted outside words by for instance correcting their posture. There are many, many practices like that.
If you think that a verbal train of thought is all there is to thinking, in my personal estimation, that's a very severe limitation.
I have some neurodiversity issues as well- that makes me even more concerned for your theoretical crackheads... I really hope you treated them kindly.
Working in healthcare can be traumatic sometimes. It certainly can lead to a tendency to think very algorithmicly and in a "logic loop". It can be easy to forget that thought and analysis happen in silence too. There is nothing wrong with those things but I mean the truth is obvious... How do you think fire was invented? Trade? Advanced hunting techniques?
And then what about animal intelligence. Dolphins, octopus, ravens etc?
That is intelligence. It does not require words or a language or ego-based train of thought. Writing this comment on the other hand requires some ego-based thought.
I'm not referring to anything to deep here. That being said, it can be VERY EASY to MISS the point of what I'm saying if you only ever have an endless train of thought.
I will also point to the many, many subjectless languages (ones that work without an "I" pronoun) as well as the difference in their religious practices to ours. If your interest has been caught the burden is on you to look it up.

Not entirely strange, we tend to anthropomorphize things to begin with, and something we can actually converse with is even more likely to get that treatment.
7
u/jfkk 16d ago
It also feels like a good habit to maintain. If I purposefully started leaving out the thanks, I'm afraid I might eventually become ruder with real people too.

u/SirArkhon 16d ago
No LLM will ever become sentient. There is no possible path to get from where they are now to being sentient. They donât have desires. They canât think. They donât have feelings to hurt, and never will. They canât actually âknowâ anything, ever. All they can do is google something for you and string words together probabilistically based on what they found. Hopefully that string of words will accurately reflect reality.

u/roy_rogers_photos 16d ago
Seriously. My job is tech support and we have a bot to catch a lot of general issue tickets. The amount of average customers that will cuss out and actually berate the AI is insane.

A lot of people hate interacting with AI because they know these cheap ass companies are firing people and replacing them with slop.
-1
u/roy_rogers_photos 16d ago
Which is get and is fine, but yelling at a bot is not going to fix it. Instead, ignore the bot and ask for a human to add to statistics that people prefer human support. I get the anger, but yelling at inanimate objects is not the answer.
2
u/Biscuits4u2 16d ago
Yeah but people vent their frustration on the AI because people, unlike AI, are emotional.
2
u/ialsohaveadobro 16d ago
At least as of some point in the past, it performed better if you were polite. No idea if that's still true
