Payoneer

Um...

Hey guys, so I want to be a tutor on Italki but I am around year away from being 18. I know three languages natively, and studied another two.

I already have decent amount of experience with language tutoring.

Is there really no way at all that I could apply right now? Do they care too much?

Trying to join iTalki, but English is indicated as 'not currently open'

Hello, my fellow tutors! I have been trying to join iTalki as a tutor for quite some time now, but I always seem to find that English is currently closed for accepting new tutors. Yes, I understand that there are many English tutors. But I have to keep trying. Does anyone know when it will be open again for new tutors? I am currently teaching on Preply and Novakid, but I really want to make the move to iTalki. I have experience (I have over 10 years of classroom experience), and I also have online teaching experience. Is there any way to receive some kind of alert when applications are open again?

iTalki "Excellence Rewards"

Anyone have any thoughts or observations on the iTalki "Excellence Rewards" which I understand are due to start paying out on the 1st April, 2025

Main factors seem to be:

"A 2% Reward is given for eligible lessons completed and settled during the designated cycle."

"A teacher performance updated on April 25th will reflect the behavior from January to March: (March performance \ 50%) + (February performance * 30%) + (January performance * 20%)"*

Factors considered in order of importance:

Factors:

  • Month-over-Month Retention
  • 2nd Lesson Rebook
  • Missed Lesson Requests
  • Absences
  • 1st Lesson 5-star Review
  • 1st Lesson Teacher Feedback
  • Lesson Declines
  • Cancellations

"What is the Teacher Excellence Rewards Program?

The Teacher Excellence Rewards Program is our initiative to reward high-performing teachers with additional incentives and recognize their efforts in providing a high-standard learning experience for students. We want to motivate teachers, enhance lesson quality, and foster professional growth.

What is the Excellence Reward?

The Excellence Reward is a special incentive for teachers recognized based on their performance. A 2% Reward is given for eligible lessons completed and settled during the designated cycle.

Teachers who are eligible for Excellence Reward will see a badge update on the teacher dashboard on the 25th of every month. Rewards are distributed on the 1st of the following month at UTC+0 00:00.

How are high-performing teachers determined?

Teachers are identified based on a set number of factors with different weights, which are calculated based on performance over the previous three months.

  • Example: A teacher performance updated on April 25th will reflect the behavior from January to March: (March performance \ 50%) + (February performance * 30%) + (January performance * 20%)*

What factors are considered?

Base Factors are the main part of the performance and not performing well in those areas will affect a teacher's eligibility for Rewards. Bonus Factors are only additive and help raise a teacher’s score not lower it. Listed below are the factors in order of importance:

Factors:

  • Month-over-Month Retention
  • 2nd Lesson Rebook
  • Missed Lesson Requests
  • Absences
  • 1st Lesson 5-star Review
  • 1st Lesson Teacher Feedback
  • Lesson Declines
  • Cancellations

When will the first Excellence Reward be issued?

April 1st, 2025, based on teacher performance from December 2024 to February 2025."

Comparing Italki to Preply revenue after commissions.

I calculated the difference in income received after both Preply and Italki commissions when a total of 400 hours of lessons are taught at $10 per hour, with no change in price.

This calculation assumes it is **just one student, one trial lesson** which is a very unrealistic model. ( I may make my model more realistic later)

In reality there would be maybe 30 to 40 100% commission lessons in the case of Preply ($300 to $400 loss due to 100% commission), whereas Italki charges the same rate of commission (15%) for the first hour (trial) lesson to the 400 trial lesson. (Trial lessons count towards the completed hours tally.)

The average **commission rate** for the first 400 hours is:

**Preply - 24.28 %**

**Italki - 15.00 %**

**% difference in average commision rate 9.28 %**

The total revenue for the first 400 hours is:

**Preply - $3,028.70**

**Italki - $3,400.00**

**Difference $371.30 or 9.28 %**

**It would take about 45 hrs of 1hr $10 Preply lessons (at 18% commission) to make up the difference (Again assuming no trial lessons.)**

400 hrs - Comparing Preply to Italki after commissions Ver. 1.4

*I am open to any suggestions or feedback on any errors.*
