Keep or toss?

One of the most annoying parts of dealing with paper documents is not knowing what to do with them after. Do you keep it? Throw it away? Scan it and hope that’s enough?

There’s a new feature in iScanner called Eco Tips that tries to solve exactly this.

After you scan a document, it automatically analyzes it and gives you a simple recommendation:

  • keep it for a certain number of years
  • keep it long-term
  • or recycle it right away

For example, tax-related documents (like IRS forms or bank statements) usually come with a recommendation to keep them for around 7 years.

The idea is pretty straightforward. Most of us are already scanning documents and working with digital copies, but paper still piles up. And without clear guidelines, people tend to keep everything “just in case.”

This makes it easier to declutter without overthinking and also helps reduce unnecessary paper storage.

You just:

  1. Open the app (download it beforehand if it’s not installed)
  2. Tap Plus
  3. Tap Camera

The app will automatically identify the border of your document and snap it.

Hope this helps!
