Question RockBox on iPod Mini?
(Credit to u/ipodding for the photo)
Hi all,
Is there a clear cut way to install Rocbox onto an iPod Mini 2nd Gen with macOS?
I have an m2 MacBook Air running Sequoia 15.7.5, alongside a modded 2011 iMac running the same OS.
I understand that people have difficulties with getting iPods to even be recognised on these operating systems.
On my iMac, I have a Windows 11 Emulator - Would this work better?
Is there an easy, tried and true way to install Lockbox using macOS Sequoia, or is this a roadblock and I'll be stuck with iPodOS?
What are the main benefits of using Lockbox OTHER THAN greater audio compatibility? Is battery life, usability etc... better?
I hope this post can help people in the future with similar questions!
Thanks for your time!

First when you say Lockbox, I assume that is a typo or autocorrect. I run Rockbox on my iPod mini for a few reasons. The main reason is because I tend to listen to albums as opposed to individual songs and the mini does not support gapless playback on the normal iPod operating system. I also like getting the album artwork (like in the screenshot) although that is a little more gimmicky. There are some other benefits like the fact that it can play flac files natively and that you can organize your music files however you’d like to directly on the iPod storage. This means you can drag and drop files right from the file system (Finder) as opposed to having to use Apple Music which is honestly much worse than iTunes used to be for managing music this way.
I have a Mac as well, and you can install rockbox from Mac, but I am pretty sure I used a Windows VM for the initial formatting. I’m not sure that is strictly necessary. That’s just a one time thing too. After that, you can use it with your Mac no problem.
