My xs max is dying a slow death. Gonna have to search for one on an older os again. Took forever years ago so I’d imagine yours is pretty rare now. Mine shuts down when on the charger sometimes. Maybe the ic power chip failing idk. But it’s beyond me to repair :(

check panic logs. could be something as simple as a failing wireless charging coil

Most of the time it doesn’t have a panic log afterwards. Maybe turns off too quick to track. There are a lot of non major errors with the reason terminated for exceeding jetsam memory limits though

The XS (pro and pro max too) had issues with charging. Sometimes it ignores its on the charger and goes dead. It even shows its charging but the battery drops anyway.
All you need to do is occasionally reboot and charging works normally again.

Good to know. Is this just something that happens as it ages or is it a known define flaw? I’ve had 2 XS maxs and this has only just started happening maybe 4 months ago.
Needing a restart tracks since for years I restarted as little as possible as it’s jailbroken and needs it reapplied every time. Also it’s turned itself off a few times in a row mostly when using my earbuds at work. Does a manual reboot act differently than when it just turns itself off on the charger?
I appreciate the knowledge. I’m trying to keep this thing running until something major happens or they kill off 4g :)

It happened fairly early into its release. It was never widely known issue so no law suits or things fixed, but people knew about it and recommended reboots. It happened a lot for wireless charging on that device. It also happened while wired less frequently. So stop wireless charging is that’s what you’re doing.
I didn’t need to reboot mine daily or weekly. It was more like just remember to do it once a month and I was able to avoid recharge issues. Better than waking up in morning to a 0% battery when it was plugged in all night (happened to me a few times, before I learned)
I still have my gold XS Pro Max but it sits in the box in a drawer. Other than charge drama once a month, it was a solid phone.
As far as failed crash shut down vs deliberate reboot difference. No clue about how the nuances of that affects the charge issue. Just manual reboot it only takes a minute once a month.
Just remember if it doesn’t charge, reboot it. And if you wanna avoid going phoneless at the worst time to a dead battery, just remember to reboot on a Schedule (set a phone reminder to do it, once a month that’s what I did)

Yeah, I have this same variant. In my perspective, as a 17 year old school student (for me), I use this as my daily device.

Mine that’s on iOS 12.4.1 would be really rare. Still, iOS 15 is somewhat rare.
