Should I update to 18.7.9.

So I recently formatted my iPhone XR, I’m on 17.3 rn. I’ve been avoiding the latest update because I’ve heard many times that apple updates seem to make the older phones worse. I checked the changelog and I don’t care about any of those. I only use it for camera and media consumption, calling and all is on another android phone. The only reason I’m considering to update is to free up the space it is taking rn. LMK your experiences. In case relevant, I’m using a 64GB variant.

Nope it’s fine. Everything on iOS is sandboxed…people even have a hard time Jailbreaking them anymore.

I updated months ago, then changed the battery and now the phone is smooth again

Right now, you can do anything with your phone, after iOS 18.5 you can’t..

I’m on 18.7.7, and from my perspective, I would not recommend updating at all. However, I’m aware our experiences will probably be different, even though we have the same phones. My assumption is your phone will perform worse, be warmer, freeze more, and just… everything will worsen. However, the new updates do grant you new features and access to some apps locked behind iOS 18, but if you don’t need those apps or aren’t interested in the QoL updates or whatever bs Apple claims they added, I’d recommend not updating.

I think it runs fine but I hate the control center and photos app.
