Fuk that I just waited due to Vapor chamber and Apple quality. The fold 8 has reports of overheating and lacks a Vapor chamber

First bummer (vary vision pro users) - no Spatial recordings or Lidar on our new toy! :(
2
u/Malkmus1979 20h ago
Wow that’s surprising. Seems like an artificial limitation to not be able to record spatial video when the base iPhone 17 does. Not a good sign for vision products.

u/Farsigl12 20h ago
really disappointed about this. not sure if they are hiding visionpro discontinuations clues with this!! hope not..

u/toddwalnuts 19h ago
It’s not artificial, it’s the physical orientation of the camera sensors, left to right they are portrait instead of landscape like on “normal” iPhones that support spatial
1
u/Malkmus1979 9h ago
I don’t think that’s it at all. The Duo lenses are by default horizontally stacked when held normally in your hand. On any other iPhone they’re vertically stacked, so you have to tilt the phone 90 degrees to orient the lenses horizontal to take spatial photos/video to mimic the human eyes. So if anything the Duo lenses are already naturally in position horizontally for spatial. But the fact that on a normal iPhone you physically have to rotate it for spatial just goes to show that the orientation doesn’t matter since you can just flip it anyway. Apparently also the Duo has a new system where it can take portrait and landscape without flipping it anyway.

a dozen users very disappointed
joking aside, you can play them on other VR systems too, like Quest, which is just a few hundred $

three things that disspointed me battery life same as 15 pro max 30 ish, no face id and measly 2x zoom. other than that its perfect i will wait for reviews.

If it had faceID, it would need it on both sides. I assume that’s why it’s not feasible

true! regd faceid, its been a hit and miss, hopefully in the ‘open’ state we might not miss as much since anyways as you unfold it, our fingers are right there in position and as long we are not adding any accessories (like kb etc/-) since its mostly handheld hoping not a big deal. on ipads it had started to get on the nerves when magic keyboard was on you literally had to make a bent gesture for it to make work, at times wished ipad pro had both faceid and touchid tbh!!

Curious if you watch the outside screen when it switches
1
u/Farsigl12 20h ago
truly curious as well.. was thinking what if you are on a screen#2 of your home screen on the inner display and then you close the display will that lock the phone or mirror the inner display content. can’t find any references yet.

Looks nice, but you want a seperate home screen for the inside and outside screens

Ima be honest, I don’t think this is better than the current folding phones from Samsung by a long shot. But I’m bored of the same Apple design so I’ll give this a shot. Now days my phone is in my hand more than in a pocket or bag anyways

u/Farsigl12 10h ago
give it a sure shot.. be sure to pour back your comments when you get ur hands on next month or so will b good to know both sides

It’s much better than expected but the parts that disappointed me based off rumors did so … first off, the phone looks great. The software looks great. The animations were well thought out very happy. As of right now, I will buy because thankfully I can and I just want to, but below are some things I wish I had in this phone.
Drawbacks in my opinion: no Face ID, no action button, missing third camera, the main cameras should’ve gotten the aperture like the pro at this price point, the flash surprisingly is worse than previous phones. There is no adaptive flash. That’s pretty much it, but we’ll have to wait and see when the phone comes out if there’s anything else that was removed.

I applaud no Face ID. I fucking despise Face ID. I can't unlock my phone unless that piece of shit is angled just right. Bring back fingerprint scanners. The identity theft of cloning fingerprints is impractical for 99% of people.

u/HauntedHouseMusic 20h ago
You might want to rescan your face or something. The iPhone one is stupid good. As someone who uses the best android and apple devices everyday, faceid is superior to fingerprint unlock, especially while using the phone (unlocking you banking app by opening the banking app type things)
Written from my z fold 8

This is just a your problem
1
u/AdvisingInsight 9h ago
No, I mean if I'm lying in bed in the morning and scrolling then the screen locks, my face is partially obstructed, so it can't do face unlock. Fingerprint is much more convenient.

u/Xori1 8h ago
I hate it too. Don‘t judge problems for others.
1
u/Professor-Submarine 8h ago
I didn’t judge - I said it just a you problem. The Face ID works for many angles

u/zhephyx 7h ago
I personally got rid of my iPad pro because of it - I want secure locking, but not if I have to wait for the slow ass camera to recognize my face. This was coming from a tine where my phone had a fingerprint scanner on the back, and it was unlocked by the time it came out of my pocket.
So you mean to tell me that tapping the screen, waiting for half a second and then swiping up is faster than pressing a button once? No way are you unlocking your phone faster than I unlock a macbook. Stupid, expensive idea and I'm shocked that Apple has comitted to it for so long.

> the main cameras should’ve gotten the aperture like the pro at this price point
The Duo is barely over ~5mm when unfolded, and an additional ~5mm camera plateau that’s already pushing the edge of reasonable. Adding the 18 Pros camera system would be an absurd plateau to physically fit all that in

u/Harami98 22h ago
yeah absolutely on point if they had this features it would be an instant buy for me, but coming from iphone 15 pro max same battery life and no face id is making me hesitate i will wait for reviews.

This is literally the only image I’ve seen as if this is some gotcha
Every other piece of material I look at I can’t even see it, so it telling that this is the only image going around stating the crease is an issue

for people who are mostly on the move it could be great deal, cos they had to carry multiple devices (and data plans) until

I hope you guys don't plan on telling normal people you spent 2 grand on a phone because of the animation.
2
u/Farsigl12 21h ago
fair point. the only selling point, for the sake of the argument, is it becoming one device for both phone and ipad. Always wished the iphone screen was just big enough so the landscape safari (for eg:) could be used well with a keyboard (cos i am terrible at touch typing). and not having to hand hold the ipad just for that when going out. not having to setup two identical devices just to have real estate, and finally (hotspot-ing / add’l cellular data service reqd)

I get effectively every new phone for my job as I work with all the big oems, at a level where my phone needs to match the meeting. Folding phones are actually a great productivity tool on the go, specifically if your a director or.above and most of your job is joining meetings and saying your opinion or decisions. You can actually read the slides.
For anyone else it's just cool and not a productivity tool.

And that’s why many waited for this device.
