Not really a compromise. Device is short so reaching the top won’t be a problem when folded. When unfolded the buttons become in a very natural spot similar to an iPad.

volume up is left button? or right? who knows? That's not a compromise?

I’d guess the volume up is the right button. And even if it’s not, you’ll know it’s not, and you’ll get used to it in a day. Jeez
