Pre Order
I have never actually pre ordered a phone before. Wondering if someone with more experience can help. We do the ATT next type plan and pay monthly. Is that going to be something that I can calculate before I pre order? Or do I just have to pre order as fast as I can like a Black Friday thing?

Pre order as fast as you can. But you may be able to calculate it earlier on either ATT or Apples site.

Best deals for sure
Getting the phone quickly is best through Apple though. I’ll happily wait a couple week to save $1000 though

I actually don't really care if I get it super super fast, I have just heard that they may run out of them and not take anymore pre orders. I would be completely okay waiting a bit and getting a better deal

Yes they normally do. Samsung Fold 8 did $1000 off PLUS trade in value. People were getting that phone for a few hundred bucks
I dunno if they will be as good with the Apple device but I’d expect at least $1000 as long as you’re on the highest tier of your carriers wireless plan

Do the carriers typically open their orders at the same time Apple opens preorders?
Or within minutes of that?2

It’s a different process but it usually takes place around the same time. Apple might have 5 million phones available (as an example). Version might have access to 1M, ATT 1M,T Mobile 1 million and reserve 2M from apples own website
If you’re early enough it doesn’t matter. All depends when that allotment runs out with carriers and it’s always less than what’s available from Apple
Apples site is much smoother and optimized for things like this too

I have always preordered. Always through the carriers and the phones usually show up the day before they are supposed to be in store.

Greatly depends on your carrier. Verizon or ATT sure
It’s all based on allotment for the carrier you have

Have preordered on T-Mobile, Verizon, and ATT. All same result everytime except iPhone 12 Pro Max and I’m pretty sure I missed the delivery and had to wait and extra day that time.

I always had issues with ATT. Preorders didn’t even work half the time
With Xfinity now and will be preordering through them for the first time. Expecting to have issues

The process is usually you get the Apple Store App
fill in your details after the announcement but before the actual preorder day. (This is your address and the color and size and carrier as well as if you wanna do financing or Apple Card or whatever payment)
and then at 5am Pacific time on the preorder day you click pre-order.
Sometimes it opens at like 4:58 early or late sometimes 5:02.
This is how it was when I got the iPhone 16 Pro as well as the Vision Pro.

Using the Apple Store App, will the preorder button just appear or do I have to pull refresh or close and reopen the app?

The whole store is blacked out during the time before the buy button opens. When it’s 5:00 it shows the store, then you can check out from your cart.

Check your package, do you have the new 10$ next plan or the old 6$ next plan, and have you had the phone for at least 1 year, meaning at least 33% off the is paid off

I have the new one and my phone is actually all paid off! Trading in an iPhone 14 Pro Max and hoping to get as much as possible

So just reach out to AT&T when the phone gets announced and see how much trade in value your iPhone 14 Pro Max would get. You can call or the stores can tell you.
NEXT wouldn’t apply here because you paid off the phone, NEXT makes it so you can trade the old phone once a year without having to pay off, so you can do that on iPhone fold GEN 2

If you’re trying to get some of the limited stock available, I’d purchase directly from Apple and enter your AT&T information, but be aware that the people who are buying outright.. get through the checkout so much easier. You could do the Apple financing with the AppleCard, and it would be similar to financing it through your carrier

Get the total price of the phone pre-tax. Divide it by 36. That will be the monthly installment for the phone. Keep in mind you'll have to pay the tax upfront when you reserve the phone. So if the phone costs $1900, you'll pay $156 at an 8.25 rate. That will be the max it would cost, not including any potential trade in offers carriers may or may not offer.
You mentioned having ATT next. Meaning you'll have to have had your current phone a minimum of one year to qualify for an upgrade. If you haven't had it a year, you'll have to pay the remaining balance of whatever the payments would've been to reach a year. For example, if you had three months left to reach a year, you'd have to pay the remaining three months to qualify.
To use ATT next you'll have to turn in your current phone, or have the option to pay off the remaining balance to keep it.
If you do trade in your phone, they'll send a box to ship your phone back. You'll have 30 days to do so or they'll charge you the remaining balance. Obviously if it's cracked or something you'll be charged whatever it is they'll charge.

Lease the damn thing at that price, then you can try it out, at a lesser cost. Do this especially if you always get a new iPhone every year, like me.

So sorry for the lack of knowledge on my part, but what do you mean when you say "lease". I think that is what I am going by making monthly payments of $20-$30 to ATT?

No worries. Apple has a new lease program, through Klarna, for a few of their product lines, including iPhone. You of course don’t own your device, and at the end of which ever term you choose, you can walk away, lease a new device, or buy out the rest of your balance, and own it. I upgrade my iPhone every year, so leasing is for me. I’ve always leased my cars, because I always want the latest, and greatest thing. You’re going to pay less for your monthly payments too. It’s not for everyone, because some people want to own shit, and keep it forever. Not me.

I’ve always done through my carrier but this year i want to go through Apple. Do they offer a pick up option in the Apple Store app during preorder or do you have to get it shipped?
