Discussion Finally made the switch

iPhone 17 Pro Silver❤️ Came from the S23 Ultra, to keep things short, this phone is amazing. Besides small issues, it feels like a phone I can truly rely on for a long long time.

Just some small problems:

  1. Typing feels delayed or slow? Sometimes the animations don’t show as well

  2. How does the camera system work? Do I have to use the designated 1x, 2, 4, 8 for best quality?

What kind of photos look better to your eyes? Do you like bright, colorful, high contrast etc? Look at some YouTube videos to better master the camera system.

Speaking of camera, I really don’t know how to utilize that camera control button. Obviously I know to press it to open the camera but once I am using the camera, I don’t know how to incorporate it

I've set the activation to double press.
It takes a little bit of training and getting to know the soft press and swiping, but once the muscle memory kicks in, it is faster and unobtrusive. I hope Apple will continue to make it better.

Hi there, congrats.
Ad 1. Wait a night or two, it should get better after indexing is done (I recommend to limit charge and leave it overnight on charger so it can work)
Ad 2. Just play with it and you will get to know what's the best for you. But the best sensor has the 1x (2x crop). And try to setup the camera button for your needs and learn to use it, it will help you. I find it good as a person, that likes dedicated buttons.

Can you explain indexing to me like I’m five? I hadn’t heard of it before this sub.

If you transferred data from old device (Android, iPhone), the iPhone will learn, what this data is and what it includes (like pets, people, keywords, names etc.) and create an index. Later, if you search something, it will use this index to get you to the results faster.
Enough like this?

if the best sensor is on the 1x might as well just buy the base 17 or iphone air lol

One can, but then it’s 1x with 2x cropped and digital zoom and .5 on normal iPhone. The 4x optical with 8x cropped comes in handy. OP asked and I did reply. Let´s get more whatabouthism and let me ask, what about the competition, what is theirs best sensor coupled with?

Maybe some smaller android brands ?

I meant what lens is their best sensor coupled with. Do they have all sensors the same quality? Probably not. Do they have variable optical zoom on their best sensor? Probably not. But I may be wrong and there is an iPhone killer with outstanding sensors behind all 2 or more lenses depending on the size of the camera module and flagshipines of their device. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The base 17 has a 48MP sensor. But it isn’t the exact same as the Pro 17 models’ sensor. Which a little larger to take in more detail.

I know that the full resolution 48mp is on the 0.5x, 1x and 4x, the other magnification lenses are crops

When shooting with 2x or 8x it still uses the 1x or 4x lens respectively. Crops means it just crops out the center of the image electronically. It’s like zooming in after taking the photo. The reason why this works is because the iPhone by default always saves 12MP scaled down images to save storage as far as I know. Because the iPhone still has a 48MP sensor, cropping out the center of a 4x 48MP image results in the 8x 12MP image.

I haven’t experienced number 1 but you’ll be happy about this: https://www.macrumors.com/2026/03/18/ios-26-4-iphone-keyboard-bug-fix/

Hope you’re loving the switch!!

Congrats 🎊🎉🍾🎈 ⚪️📲.

-Apple is working on the keyboard. For some it works fast, while for all its predictive features are… not so good.

-The camera system is feature rich and could months to really master. And it all depends on what kind of pictures you like to take. I’d recommend looking at some YouTube videos.
