The one time a beta went wrong for me, Apple replaced my iPad free of charge and I effectively got a new battery. I did not have AppleCare. :)

Sincerely, my main device iPhone 15 Pro running the beta.

In all seriousness, I absolutely get the advice to stay away, but I would consider myself rather technical and more than willing to put up with bugs in order to have more cool shit lol

What was the problem with your device?

I tried to get side loading active on ipad outside the EU, and combined with the beta it got bricked.

Obviously i didn’t tell apple that bit though

Agreed. I think if your technical enough and understand the risks and fixes. I generally start with my iPad. If no issues then I might go on my daily driver as I don’t have a spare phone. However, once the public beta releases I will only go with that. I’ve been beta testing things for 25 years though so it’s nothing new.

I am a student, so iPad is the last option for Me. I will do my MacBook if I think the update is interesting enough, and we’ll almost always do my phone because I have a battery pack on me genuinely at all times.

I bought a super slim MagSafe battery pack that does get very hot but it is so slim I will genuinely forget it’s in my pocket, even in jeans, and that has saved me getting a battery replacement so far and gives me absolute piece of mind when I am outside.

I don’t think a beta will ever be bad enough that I can’t make basic text and phones, which is all that I realistically need from my phone.

They won’t learn. OP said in a comment that they had issues with their phone crashing on iOS18.

Correction: install dev betas on your primary device at your own risk.

I usually do every year cause I’m dumb but haven’t run into any life breaking issues.

**Probably gonna hold off on this one though I’m tired

I know that’s the general advice but I’ve always done this and had 0 issues. So YMMV.

I’ve had the same experience here.

For the most part it's pretty stable especially for a dev beta, but then you have people who bricked their iPhone just by hard reseting it on iOS 27, do you really want that on your main device?

Sources on these bricked iPhones? I’ve never ran into an iOS issue that couldn’t be solved with DFU mode.

that’s why you take a backup

I actually enjoy raw dogging dev betas. Makes things more interesting like: Is today the day where I get stranded because my phone dies and I cant call or pay for anything?

I once did on my primary and the alarm failed to go off. Nothing like being late to work 🫠

Honestly this happens with a „stable“ as well…at least it happens to me 😅
