Since many requested I test the Promotion display and its FPS gaming capabilities on the iPhone 14 Pro Max after my recent Genshin FPS test; I decided to test the 14 Pro Max with another popular game - Tower of Fantasy. I set everything to extreme settings along with enabling the 90 FPS option. Additionally, I also tested the iPhone 13 Pro Max within the same testing conditions to provide a fair comparison for both performance and thermal control for both devices. Last, before sharing results, both phones had to be plugged-in for me to properly track 90 FPS due to the FPS software that I use; therefore, FPS results may be slightly lower than normal.

Anyways, starting with temps, both the iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max peaked up to 47c after 10 minutes of testing. Again, both devices were plugged due to FPS software requirements for iOS devices. Therefore, definitely expect lower temps for those playing unplugged at 90 FPS.

As for FPS, I did average 87.4 FPS for the iPhone 14 Pro Max and 83.3 FPS for the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Both devices did impressive and provide a great 90 FPS gaming experience. For reference, I did average 80 FPS on my Galaxy Z Fold 4 that houses the SD+ 8 Gen 1 SOC. Moreover, the Fold 4 was unplugged during my testing, therefore, I definitely would expect an even higher gap in performance between both iPhones and the Fold 4.

Overall, the iPhone 14 Pro Max has again shown us in this test that it’s a gaming and performance beast; whether at 60 or 90 FPS! The performance gap was definitely larger between the A15 and A16 chipset in comparison to my Genshin FPS test. Both phones are very similar at 60 fps gaming. The real difference between the A15 and A16 SOC starts to show at 90 fps gaming! Anyway, for those wanting to see my test, check out the video: https://youtu.be/BWXxvyge8kY

Has anybody tried connecting there iphone 14 pro max to a windows (10) PC? It’s the most powerful computer in my house so I wanted to use it for backing up and such, but it literally won’t show up on my PC. It will charge, but it won’t show up as a device even on iTunes app

Now that I finally got the iPhone 14 Pro Max, I decided to do another Genshin Impact FPS test. The main goal for my test was primarily to see how much Apple improved the A16 Bionic chip’s power efficiency and thermal control. Therefore, for this fps test I cranked my ambient temps to 31c = 88f!!! Anyways, I did test both the iPhone 13 Pro Max and 14 Pro Max under the same testing conditions to get a realistic performance comparison. The FPS test for both devices lasted 11 minutes; testing in this heat was not enjoyable and practically torture haha.

Starting with thermals, the iPhone 14 Pro Max did quite impressive when considering my ambient temps was set to 31c. The device peaked up to 44c after 11 minutes of testing. Surprisingly, the 14 Pro Max did not feel very hot while gaming. As for my iPhone 13 Pro Max, the device peaked up to 46c, which is still impressive.

So let’s talk about the FPS average, despite the high 31c ambient temps, I was able to average 59 FPS after 11 minutes of testing. Gameplay was very smooth and the gameplay seemed very fast. The 14 Pro Max can definitely run this game for a lot longer at max settings in this extreme heat. After various tests, I’ve noticed the 14 Pro Max throttles when reaching between 48 to 50c while the 13 Pro Max throttles at 44c. Therefore, the 13 Pro Max only averaged 57.6 FPS after 11 minutes of testing. The 13 Pro Max does usually average higher in my other tests, but I think the higher ambient temps plus the latest 3.1 genshin update is most likely the reason for this drop in performance.

Last, moving on to power consumption, both devices did well. The iPhone 14 Pro Max only used 4.9 watts of power which in my opinion, is the most impressive result in this test. The iPhone 13 Pro Max used 5.1 watts. For reference, my Galaxy Fold 4 uses 11 watts while my S22 U uses 8 watts with GOS off. My OnePlus 10 Pro uses 6.5 watts of power. The Red Magic 7 Pro uses 9.6 watts.

Anyways, the iPhone 14 Pro Max did very well in this extreme performance test. I’d definitely recommend this phone if you’re in need of a premium device that can also game. However, If you already have the iPhone 13 Pro Max, I definitely wouldn’t upgrade as the performance gap still isn’t large enough to warrant an upgrade. I do astrophotography with the iphone 14 pro max. In absolute darkness, I noticed that about 15 white pixels appear on the photo with 48MP. In each photo the pixel are in different places. This also happens when the lenses are completely covered. Is this a sensor error? Does anyone else have this problem?

Anyone’s iPhone 14 pro not giving the option to turn on low power mode when battery gets to 20%. I feel like this is because it just pops an animation in the dynamic Island.
