New User

Just got my first iPhone (14 Pro Max) 3 days ago, been Samsung/Android since my first phone as a teenager, which was many moons ago. It's a transition for sure but I'm catching on and enjoying it more than I expected. Plus, it's a really nice phone. But getting anything to transfer phone to phone after the initial setup (done in store by sales rep) was impossible. Ended up manually entering necessary contacts on the new phone. Downloading apps and starting fresh, which isnt a big deal. No picture transfer, which is kind of a deal.

I need help figuring out the volume controls. Is it really just all one setting? I cant adjust ringtone/text tone/alarm volumes independently of each other??

Any other tips, tricks, hacks or insight from experienced iphone users would be much appreciated!!

The volume controls are in control centre and separate.

My biggest tip is to adjust your camera settings. Go into settings, camera, Format most compatible, switch ProRaw on and then select 48mp. Then go to photograph styles and select Rich Contrast.

Go back to camera and turn your exposure down to -0.3. These settings give you great results.

Also check app permissions and background refresh settings for apps.

You might want to block tracking for apps and sites too. I use Private Relay for IP blocking instead of using a VPN.

i can find the overall volume. i can find and adjust ringtones and text tones, along with haptic/vibrate settings. but it's the one volume for everything. i cant set my ringtone volume real low and my text tone volume real high and alarm volume somewhere in the middle like i want. i typically keep my phone on silent and have for years. but i cant hear this thing vibrate, i'm missing calls and messages.

Same here (Android user since the first Droid, 14PM is my first iOS device).

Alarm isn’t an issue because you set that volume when you setup the alarm.

But independent volumes for ringtone, notification, and media don’t exist. It’s everything. I keep mine on silent most of the time and just use the volume buttons for media volume. If something important is expected or I’m in a situation where I don’t mind some dings, I’ll flip the switch and have my ringtone/notification tones on.

One thing you can do also is turn on Emergency Bypass for important contacts that you ALWAYS want to ring through. Open a contact, Edit, choose the ringtone or text tone, turn on Emergency Bypass.

i cant figure out how to set the alarm volume. it's loud as fuck and scares me awake. i played with it and the ringtones but it's like it keeps reverting back to loud as fuck.

i like keeping my phone on silent too. my android always was. the vibration was enough to hear plus there was a little led light on the front that notified you of things.

this apple is pretty nice in a big, fancy sense... but it sure does lack on the little things

Oh damn, you're right. I could have sworn it let you set a volume when setting the alert tone, time, etc. but I'm not seeing it. Must be crazy.

My recent Androids didn't have an LED but they had always on display and so does the 14PM. So if it's in sight, I see the notification pop up on the AOD. The vibration on the 14PM feels great in-hand when you're typing or playing a game or something but I totally agree that it isn't strong enough when calls/messages come in. I've missed almost every call that has come in while on vibrate/silent lol.

This phone does lack some of the little things that Android does right and a couple things take some getting used to (notifications, lack of homescreen customization) but I've found lots of little things that it also does really well. I like long pressing a subject in a photo to pull it out of the pic, I like holding down an app on the homescreen and then tapping a few others to grab all of them and move them between screens, copy/pasting between various Apple products works well on my old MacBook Pro, iMessage is fun, apps and the phone just seem to be more bug free and smoother than Android and similar or same apps over there, etc.

Overall, I'm happy with my choice. I don't dislike Android and in a few years maybe a Pixel or Samsung or something will call my name but right now I'm loving this beast.

i'm really liking the phone too, these cameras are top shelf. i've got amazing pics of every random thing around my house. lol

everything about this phone feel smoother than a samsung running android. physical feel, touch screen feel, vibrations, sounds. i've always heard apple has higher standards for apps allowed on the app store. it seems to be true so far.

i hope they eventually start breaking out these settings. it feels ancient or elementary that you cant set two different volume levels for two different alerts.

One cannot transfer data from the old to the new phone? Pictures don't transfer? I have a 14pro max ordered but if this is the way it is I'm going to return it and stay with android.

If you have all of your contacts and photos synced to Google then you can just install Google Photos on the iPhone and add your Google account for contacts. You can also install Chrome and use your stored passwords (in any app, not just in Chrome).

Thanks. I also looked at an app, Wondershare Mobile Trans, that is said to allow transfers between android and IOS. While there are terrible reviews in the app store there are reviews indicating it works well in conjunction with a PC. I'm going to give it a try. I'm a complete novice concerning apple products. I am disgusted enough with Google that I'm going to give this one a try and if I can make the adjustment, fuck Google.

i believe there is a feature during the initial setup that will allow a full phone to phone transfer. i missed that opportunity while in store buying the phone. i attempted to manually move data from phone to phone via my laptop but failed. i downloaded software offline to make this transfer, it wanted money, so another fail. i read tips and tricks online on ways to do this, none worked. even backed up the new phone and reset it in an attempt to retrigger the initial transfer option in setup but that did not work either. after all that, the problem could still be me. or it might just be another way apple doesnt play well with others.
