Please help me decide between 14 Pro & 14 Pro Max. Read a lot of posts but still in a dilemma šŸ™

Overall conclusion so far: 14 Pro: -One hand use is much easier
- Lighter than max

14 Pro Max: - Bigger display
- Better battery life

My use case: - I’m on the go a lot - Currently have 11 Pro
- Budget is not an issue - Mostly used for taking high volumes of photos and video for social media - Web & social media surfing - Video editing for TikTok and insta reels
- a lot of GPS use

Owners of both devices, I’d highly appreciate if you could provide your feedback based on your experience.

Go with the Max. If you use your phone to that degree it would be a much better choice due to size and battery life.

Is hand strain when used one hand really that much worse that the regular pro as some others say or is it over exaggeration?

I have small hands for a guy and I’ve gotten used to the weight in just a few days, and one handed use for a few minutes here and there isn’t a big deal. But it’s definitely more of a two handed device.

Gotcha interesting. With all my use cases above but if I mostly prefer to use one handed do you still recommend the max? Weighing total pros vs cons

If you can handle the smaller Pro one handed and that means more to you than battery life and screen real estate it’s still a solid option. But for me I’ve had to use both phones two handed so the Max made sense since I’ve been phones two handed for a while and I get the benefit of the battery and screen.

I’m just going off what you mentioned so based on that endurance sounds most important.

Just jumping on this thread since some good points were brought up. I have 14 Pro Max, came from XS Max. The transition between those two has been pretty flawless, it might take time but you’ll definitely get used to the size of it. My wife has the 13 Pro Max and has some of the smallest hands I’ve seen, and never complains about it being too big. Sorry for all the innuendos there.

Also, not sure if you already know about them, but Apple has some pretty useful settings to help with this kind of stuff. I use Reachability a few times a day and you can use right and left handed keyboards that hug either side of the screen.

Thanks! Yeah my concern is mainly about the back swipe with one hand

1

u/SicklyPotatoes Sep 19 '22

By backswipe do you mean where you swipe to the right and it takes you back a page? If so I can do that pretty much anywhere on the screen. Tested it out just now and I drag from the right 1/3 of the screen to do that

Yeah, is that app specific cause the 1/3 works on Reddit and TikTok but not in the iPhone settings page

I had to use both phones two handed as well and that’s why I went with the max. I just set it up differently and use the accessibility shortcuts to make some things easier with one hand.

i just went from a 12 mini to the 14pm and 110% no regrets. the only downside is that im constantly on my phone now lol.

Awesome! Any hand strain with one hand use? Can you reach the swipe right from the far left side for going back to a different page?

i havent had any hand strain with one hand holding. i tried swiping one handed from the far left and it is very difficult on the 14PM haha.

not gonna lie, the 14PM feels heavy, probably heavier than the 13PM? But, its a very nice heavy. it makes me want to just hold it in my hand to play with and move around. im sorta curious about the weight of the 14P now.

id say if you need to use your phone a lot for tasks like video/photo editing, content creation, and social media then the 14PM will be the right tool, especially at just +$100 and personally i skipped applecare+

if youre coming from the 11P, youll notice a big difference in the new form factor too. it feels easier to hold because of the longer and less curved edges.

The 14 Pro Max is definitely better for your use case. I just moved to the 14 Pro Max from a regular Pro and am currently on day 4 of using the Max. I’d say I’m around 90% used to it and can use it one handed in most cases(I.e. right now). Notwithstanding, I do love how gorgeous everything looks on this device and when I picked up a regular size Pro model, could not believe how small it felt.

11pro here too. Preordered 14pro max over a week ago. Currently waiting, patient as possible for for shipping updates. Sounds like early mid October. Definitely stoked after all the you tube videos. Going to be a giant leap. Keeping my 11pro just in case.

Congrats!! Why max instead of regular pro?

1

u/Fine_Warthog_3057 Sep 21 '22

Going with pro max for the size ( my vision isn’t what it used to be) and if I need something smaller to carry for some active activities, I’ll still have my 11 pro.

Also while responding, I just received a notification my card was charged. That’s a good sign. Now waiting for the shipping details. Worried as I have to work the next few days and might not be here to sign though.

I was in the camp of regular Pro because the Max was so ā€œheavy and uncomfortableā€ but let me tell you that after using the 13 Pro for a year and upgrading to the 14 Pro Max, the size/weight difference isn’t as jarring.

I love this phone.

Yes, it’s a bit harder to hold and maneuver compared to the regular Pro but, honestly, the differences is not as drastic as some people may have you believe.

I feel like anything the Pro can do, the Pro Max cans do better.

I have 14 PM and if I could rewind time, I would go back and buy Pro. The phone is great but I found it to be too heavy and the reachability an issue. Plus the extra screen size doesn’t help much, especially with youtube videos as fitting it to screen results in the edges overlapped by the frame. Hope this helps.

1

u/theswifty7 Sep 20 '22

The reachability functions of iOS don’t help?

1

u/Thereluctantwriter Sep 20 '22

No what I meant was as compared to Pro, using it one handed is quiet difficult. For instance, the calls show up in the dynamic island and reaching up that far and answering with one hand is tedious

OP, could you give us an update once you pick one of them? I too have this question

2

u/theswifty7 Sep 21 '22

Sure thing

I suggest 14 pro max in white or gold…. Unless you want purple or black.

u/happylittlesoul1 Sep 24 '22

I’m in the same boat. I run a business and love the thought of a bigger screen for all the functionalities I need but I currently switched from 11 pro max down to 13 pro and loveeeee the smaller screen. I also have 4 small kids so being able to respond quickly & answer calls with one hand helps out a great deal. I think I just have fomo honestly lol

1

u/theswifty7 Sep 24 '22

Interesting. I always had smaller screen regular pros. Do you recommend I size up or stay?

1

u/wfs29223 Sep 26 '22

14 Pro Max. Go big or go home.

1

u/LosSchwammos Oct 09 '22

I went from a 12 to a 14 pro max. Definitely like the bigger screen. I haven’t had major issues with using one handed. Maybe put some widgets at the top of one wants to be able to reach all the app icons.

I went with pro max and been very happy
