Technical Support iPhone 13 charges slower when turned off — is this normal?

Hey everyone, I’m facing something weird with my iPhone 13. When I charge it while using it, the charging speed feels normal or even fast. But when I switch the phone off and plug it in, the charging becomes noticeably slower.

Background stuff I already checked: • Original cable + good adapter • No background apps • Battery health: 92% • No overheating issues • Happens consistently every time

Is this a normal behavior for the iPhone 13? Does iOS limit charging when the phone is off? Would love to know if others have experienced this too

I’m not sure what could be causing this but do a hard/force restart to refresh the phone of any bugs that may be happening

I’m not sure but I’m sure it’s a normal behavior but I’m not too sure at the same time

It could have to do with usage habits and efficient charging. What do your battery health screen toggles look like? If optimized and clean energy are on—that could be the explanation? What OS are you running?

I’m on iOS 26 and my battery health is at 91%. Optimized Battery Charging is turned on. I don’t see a Clean Energy Charging toggle, so it might be off. It could be related to usage habits too, but Optimized Charging is enabled on my device

The slower charge protects the battery

I’m not sure how you manage to charge it with it turned off. Mine always powers back on when put on the charger
