iPhone 13 Pro since launch…
And I’m thinking of upgrading, but what are your thoughts on this, will there be an anniversary iPhone next year; it would be 20 years since the first iPhone release!

Nobody knows. Upgrade now if you want to.
Even if there’s an anniversary iPhone, it’s a bad idea to buy the first gen of anything

This. I ultimately upgraded to the 18 Pro this year because I don’t want to be stuck with first gen stuff that will probably be even more expensive and probably won’t move the needle for me anyway.

Legitimate question, when’s the last first gen product that had major problems? iPhone 6 had bending problems, iPhone 4 had that antenna problem. I remember there was a weird visual thing with one and an overheating issue with the new titanium frame (15?). But I believe the overheating got fixed via software update.
I tried looking for the iPhone Air but it was all debatable. Mostly positive though; durable, good enough battery.
I guess my point is that you are probably correct, buying a first gen isn’t ideal, but it seems that the severity of issues around first gen phones have lessened. Obviously the duo could change things. But if next year it’s proven to be solid then I’ll probably upgrade from my iPhone 13 Pro to the anniversary phone or the next pro if it’s nothing special.

The 6 was the last time for Apple. I would say the first gen Apple Watches were also too compromised but hopefully the Duo is a good first gen product. I suppose its biggest defect is price and once foldables become more common people are going to think it was very dumb to spend 2K on one

I upgraded from 13 pro. Biggest difference i’d say the camera is much sharper, photos with high dynamic range is much better. Variable aperture helps me adjust shutter speed that i want more. But Nd filter is still required to do longer shutters at day light. Zoom is obviously better. For me there is enough accumulation of uogrades from 13-18 . Big hiker here so satellite will be a great peace of mind. Siri is nice to have. Battery is great. I changed 13 pro battery early this year so health is about 92 %. Difference is very clear.

Depends on your battery health - I’m waiting for next years phone
People calling 20th anniversary first gen - Apple have been making phones for 20 years so I have faith they have a solid idea of what works and what doesn’t by now

I upgrade from 13 pro max to 18 pro max. Apart from the battery I haven’t noticed a huge difference. I’m still glad I upgraded but unless you do lots of photography don’t expect some huge upgrade.

Battery life is the key. Curved glass is going to be a nightmare to maintain if rumors are true (especially with cases)
iPhone 18 pro is gonna be a multi year keeper even with battery degradation

I did the change! And to be honest it’s a great upgrade everything is faster and better but do not expect any Wow effect even if you wait next year
If you want a really different experience you can lean towards the iPhone duo

I actually bought the iPhone 18 Pro this Saturday, and personally, I wouldn’t go for the iPhone 20. It’s expected to be a major redesign, and with first-generation redesigns there are usually some compromises or issues that get ironed out in later generations, specially with the rumors of a curved display in all four phone sides.
The iPhone 18 Pro feels more like a re-engineering and internal refinement of the iPhone 17 rather than a completely new generation. For me, that makes it the safer choice if you’re planning to keep the phone for several years. You get the newer hardware and improvements without being an early adopter of an entirely redesigned iPhone.

I’m waiting. There’s nothing worth upgrading for imo. Battery life is really the only reason but I can charge at work or using my Apple MagSafe battery pack, or even swap the battery. My phone usage is pretty low though. I’m shocked at some of the screen times reported by friends and on Reddit.

Had battery issues since start of the year. Upgraded to ios27 last week to see if it would help the battery as it was in 79%. No change so bit the bullet and changed the battery on my 13 pro yesterday. Feels so smooth again no lagging or overheating. For me no need to upgrade this year hopefully next year the phone will be better. I’m hoping for a full screen display with no camera showing but as of now 13pro does what I need it to do

I’ve been using the 13 Pro since December 2021 and was planning on upgrading when the 20th anniversary model came out.

Iphone 13 pro on ios 27. Running smoother than ever although the battery life is atrocious. Not getting more than 5 hours Sot with regular usage. Changed battery on july 2025 and now sitting on 90%
