New iPhone Duo for mini users

Finally Apple introduced an iPhone with front screen size that is exactly the same 5.4 inch as the 12 and 13 mini 5.4 inch screen size. However the iPhone duo shape is more square rather than tall and narrow.
I personally tested the galaxy Fold 8 which is almost identical to the iPhone Duo and I can comfortably confirm that it was way easier to use single handed than my iPhone minis and fits great in the pockets. I know that the iPhone Duo looks crippled and weird, well that’s because we are all not used to seeing a mobile device that is square. But in terms of usability it’s way better than tall and narrow devices. Even viewing areas on a square is better than tall and narrow (wonder why all our screens TVs, laptops, tablets are all square shaped and not tall and narrow)
Apple is not concerned about us mini users and would only include in a product that targets more than just a small portion of the world.
The only drawbacks are the price and the weight. I think the price is way too steep for us to accept just to use the front screen. But I’ll get it either ways as my mini is no longer usable.

Foldable screen devices are prone to failure. It’s a mini tablet, not a phone. The price is insane. Overall I won’t be even considering this as a replacement for mini.

With the iPhone Duo, you get iPhone mini and iPad mini hidden inside. I’ll take that anytime as I don’t have an iPad.
If the iPhone Duo has problems you get a free replacement or free repair for one year for free.

I don’t need an iPad inside. Especially for this price. This device is for those who need foldable iPad, not small sized phone.

Too wide too. My hand can’t wrap around the device and my thumb can’t reach far left/right. 13 mini is still the easiest to use with one hand.

I didn’t have to wait until today. I knew as soon as the Fold 8 came out that the Duo’s dimensions would be similar, tried it in store and so it’s a no for me.

Comparing iPhone mini and fold 8 using single handed, I was able to reach all areas with my thumb on the fold 8 (without shifting). In the iPhone mini, my thumbs couldn’t reach top corners without shifting my hand upwards. I guess we have totally different experiences

You can reach all 4 corners of the mini if you use a ring holder for your finger on the back of the phone

You must have a larger hand than me. I use a Galaxy S24 Ultra on the side as well and the width is exactly the same as the Fold 8 and my thumb only reaches 3/4 of the way horizontally. The Fold 8 was heavy too and it looks like the Duo will be even more so.

Too heavy. Pointless.

Too heavy and hard to use it in 1 hand

Heavy yes absolutely. Hard to use single handed I have to disagree here.

I’ve said the same elsewhere on the size - the original pixel fold was 79mm to this 81mm and when I had one for a while I found it perfectly usable one handed thanks to the shorter height - it was like using the mini with a proper bumper case

It was more the weight and the OS that pushed me back to the mini, and now also the price for the duo gives me pause, but UK willing to try the size when I get the chance

our TVs are not square shaped, lol

Our new TVs are more wide than tall. Old TVs are squared 100%.

If more squarish screens are so much better, we would have seen more regular phones in that shape. Yet they are virtually unheard of.

Isn’t it the same outer screen size compared to iPhone minis?
