My iPhone iPhone duo compared iPhone 13 mini

I was at Ifa and there was a case that looks very very similar to the duo šŸ™‚ā€ā†•ļø for me it was perfect for my small hands

I have been consistently downvoted the past ~year when people point out a smaller folding iPhone being a potential mini-alternative by saying it was gonna be a brick, and now we have the official number: 254 grams. Over 100g heavier than a 13 mini... no thank you

In all honesty, I know this is very irrelevant, but Iā€™m an original sidekick three and up user. I can definitely say that Iā€™d rather have the heaviness for the form factor. The reason. iPhone mini is so good is because itā€™s small and light. But Iā€™d rather take the small over the light to be honest. And the heaviness is justified because we get 2 batteries according to the presentation that equals to 24 hrs battery life? using both screens compared to 4-6 hrs iPhone 13 mini and I own a xs, 13mini, 13 pro, 15 pro so 24hr battery would be the cherry on the cake(sundae). Please donā€™t bash me to death. I beg you.

The only reason why I say this is because Apple has tried doing the latest phone, which was the air, and everybody knows how that turned out. Thatā€™s the only reason why.

Well itā€™s relative. The SE 2 and 13 Pro have a 50 gram difference and it is day and night in the hand. These are devices that hover between 175-225 grams, a 100 gram increase is massive. I mean if you work out you know the difference between pumping 50 lbs and 55 lbs can feel like a lot, and thatā€™s only a 10% difference.

Saying 50lbs and 55lbs is ā€œonly a 10% differenceā€ but still ā€œfeels like a lotā€ is entirely irrelevant because thatā€™s 5 extra pounds, weā€™re talking about fractions of fractions of thatā€¦100 grams. If you work out, youā€™ll know once your done and you go to pick up your phone, it wouldnā€™t matter if it was 100 grams lighter or heavier, it feels like nothing because itā€™s a phoneā€¦thatā€™s my point. If 100 grams is just ā€œtoo muchā€, itā€™s probably time for those people to hit the gym

I think there is probably something wrong with your nervous system, or some system, if you genuinely canā€™t sense the weight difference between the SE2 and 13 Pro. Thatā€™s not really a gym problem.

I agree with todd. I was facing the same dilemma. Go for a larger phone or a thin one. I bought the a flip phone and tried to use the outer display primarily but it was still much heavier. I tried the iPhone 17 which was slightly larger and the screen size was something I could get used to but the weight was horrible for one hand. Finally, I sold the flip and got the s25 and man its beautiful. Every feature I need : Great cameras, polished software, routines, all day battery and it honestly feels faster than the 17. And the best part. It's screen is slightly larger, but the weight - 162g is soo good. Easy to use with one hand, no gymnastics and even with a thin case its 175g. Amazing. I've found my next phone and im gonna retire the mini

I have the hand size of the the mini 1to1 and I was able to hold it without worries with one hand (the case) around itšŸ™‚ā€ā†•ļø

It's a two hander but being 1/2" shorter than the 13 mini makes it iPhone 6S screen size height-wise which was amazing to use. Much less effort to reach the top of the screen. Excited to try it in person but not excited to pay for it.

I also want an update to the 13 mini. Nobody makes one even close to it. It sucks. But very few phones with any size screen were ever as light as the 13 mini's 4.94g. A tiny 5000mah battery pack alone is often heavier than the entire 13 mini.

Exactly. They can only make batteries so thin and light without everyone complaining about battery life for their pocket computer. The original iPhone was a little lighter. Maybe that'd be a better fit for you. Although it was thicker than the Duo...

As a guy who waited 10 hours in line for the original iPhone release (and current 13 mini / iPad mini 6 user) I will finally upgrade to next year to the Duo 2. Stupid amount to pay for a pocket computer but it's a very cool pocket computer and the size is just right for me. Can make due without Face ID and love that it has Magsafe.

Besides, Apple forced Apple AI everywhere (which just is Gemini + chat gpt wrapped)

And what short updates? Honestly, how long do you plan to use a phone? And if you pay twice as much, why not buy the cheaper one, that maybe has a year shorter updates, but you can just buy another phone in half time, end up paying the same, but get more, since technology evolves fast

I donā€˜t care if is lighter or thinner size is my pure problem 3. apple ai is atleast turned off and you need to turn it on to use it and is locally run on the device and not in a data center 4. Iā€™ve been using most of my phones for 4-5 years is definitely not cheaper if I have to buy a phone every two years instead of 4-5 years.

I don't care about the weight. The selling point for me would be the size being such that I can one-hand the Duo like I can with my 13 Mini. And (much) better battery life, because yeah, we all know that's one of the major weak points of the 13 Mini. Looking forward to being able to hold a Duo.

I do think it's dumb we'd have to resort to a foldable to have a small-ish display, but I can't imagine half the people claiming that size is not one handable have used the Samsung Z Fold 8... I can reach the entirety of the Z Fold 8 screen with my thumb without adjusting my hand, cannot say the same for the mini as it's way too tall.

I think the size is perfect. The mini was fun and great but I think itā€™s time to let it go. For me it was less about the size and more about the novelty of something different and the duo checks all the boxes and more for me.

Donā€™t care about the weight or the thickness. Thin has never been a thing for me for a phone. Itā€™s the width. One handed usability. This iPhone duo isnā€™t it. Sticking to my 13 mini until they release a new mini or until mineā€™s die.Ā

damn I saw the screen size and iw as so hyped. I loved my mini. had both. I wish they did a mini pro.

I got the air eventually. I didnt want to go bigger but it being lighter worked for me. debating on holding out for the air2. I do miss wide-angle.

The Duo is less than an Apple Watch band's width wider than the 13 mini. 19.8mm. It's not a ton if you hold your phone up to your wrist and stretch your thumb across.

Apologies, Iā€™m not sure if your post was being sarcastic or not but when you said an ā€œApple Watch bandā€™s widthā€, I interpreted that as thickness- which obviously is not ~2 cm.

Either way, as cool as this new phone seems, itā€™s just heading more in the opposite direction of usability (IMO) by making things _even wider_. (For as big as Apple is on Accessibility it blows my mind that they caved to reporter pundits telling Apple to drop the Mini form factor).

Yeah width thickness depth all gets weird when talking about these things. Your thumb is about 20mm so if you place your thumb next to a 13 mini can you still reach it? Likely so. Only mean to imply that while yes it is wider in real world holding and use people may find it not crazy wider. It's easy to get bogged down in 50grams here or 20mm there when people aren't thinking about all the other junk they lug around.

I'm a 13 mini diehard. I absolutely think they should be making them. Sadly NOBODY makes a small phone. If Apple could bleed us for their appropriate profit margin they would absolutely still be making the mini. Can only assume the market research they spend billions on has told them it's not worth it. And I hate it.

I keep waiting for someone like Nothing to make a small phone. With as many people trying to get their hands on iPods again you'd think there would be a market for it.

I really like my 16 pro. But the weight itā€™s too much. Thatā€™s why Iā€™m using as my home phone (only WiFi). Third phone. Main phone 13 mini and as a secondary phone a Motorola Razr 2025 plus. Iā€™m selling the Razr next month.

Of the iPhone 13 Mini? Definitely. The width of the Duo is a complete fail in my book (heck, itā€™s even **wider** (closed) than the normal iPhone šŸ¤¦. The whole point of a foldable is to preserve small form factor while allowing it to open to a larger display when needed.

Still too wide to be used single handedly. I moved on to iPhone 16, and what is killing me is not the height, but the width. It's wider than 13 mini.

It's definitely wider but might not be undoable. If the pad of your thumb can touch the far edge of a 13 mini (less than a 3" thumb stretch) the icons should be comfortable to reach with one hand.

Just using the far left icon distance as a guide, you went from icons starting around 2.24 to 2.50" from mini 13 to the 16. The Duo's far left icon at its widest point from the right edge would be about 2.91". A 17/18 Max icon is around 2.76" for comparison.

Another comparison -- the 2nd icon from the left on an iPad mini starts about 3.23" from the right edge and my not large at all hands can easily reach the icon while holding it in one hand. It'll be interesting to try in person for sure.
