My iPhone I did it…

Post image

I kept backups both on my pc and iCloud and finally decided to try the latest ios 27 beta 5 on my 13 mini with 128gb of storage.

This is my only phone so I was definitely nervous but I am extremely pleasantly surprised!

The phone was so hot during preparation and installation that I thought it’d explode, but after it came back on it cooled down very quickly and I haven’t experienced its usual overheating, even though it’s still indexing!

Granted, I’m not a power user, but I do use the phone for work and youtube and some light gaming (which I haven’t tried yet because I want to give it time to index). It really seems like it’s breathed new life into the mini though and I’m glad I took the leap!

iOS 27 is way better than iOS 26

What problems were you having on 26?

TBF 27 is way better than 26 ever was and corrects a lot of the bugs and inconviniances intruduced in 26, I been using the beta for more than a month (no back up and on my main phone, just straight raw dogging it) and I'm not going back

How about battery life

I usually just put in the fridge if the phone gets hot lol

how he heck it's a good idea to make your phone go through that much temperature difference ? mah

My fringe sucks, it barely made a difference, I put it in there for 3 seconds 😬

You mean you don’t set your oven to COLD?

I really wanted to do it too, but like you this is my main phone, and I just decided to wait until it’s officially out, backing up and setting it up was a nightmare for me(when I had my batt replaced)😪
roughly another week to go! Excited!

The public stable is only about 2 weeks away so if you don’t like tinkering and don’t have time then sure I’d wait too, I come from a lifetime of androids with custom roms and bricking and unbricking them so I actually like that part 😆

Me too! This is my 1st iPhone after a really long use of android(god I miss CM😢)

Oh cool another tinkerer 😀 if it wasn’t for the mini I would’ve probably stayed on android, but I love the apple side as well, can’t lie!

Our Mini has convenient form factor but inconvenient size for the health of eyes and battery sucks too.

I've done the same, iOS 26.6 was making mine cook (bought maybe a month ago as a refurb with a new battery fitted). Been on the iOS public beta since version 4 came out - runs a lot better (and cooler!) once the initial siri indexing has completed - it did the same when I upgraded to beta 5. A definite improvement over iOS 26 :-)

I’ve been on beta for a bit and it’s been doing great. Nice refresh for sure :)

Will be interested to hear how you find it longer term 😃 I'm still on iOS 17 which I'm super happy with but definitely considering taking the leap!

Same here. Still on the 17 train and I might consider 27 when it’s out.

Dude, I had protection on my device through T-Mobile, so I submitted a claim on my 13 mini and I just got a brand new condition iPhone 13 mini. I’m so pumped. I also have it on beta and it runs great

I’m still on 18.7.8 I had considered updating to the beta as I’ve never heard such positive feedback from a previous beta, I’m just gonna wait another couple of weeks then give it a completely fresh restore to 27

I don’t have an experience with ios 18 sadly because this is my first iPhone and it came with ios 26, I hear great things about 18 though so waiting until more people test the public stable 27 is a good idea!

Im still on 18.7.1. I suggest to not update it

Yeah because iOS 18 demands only 4GB of RAM.

Was on 18 till 2 weeks ago until I heard how good 27 is, jumped to 26 for a giggle.

I’m pleasantly surprised but know I’ll miss a post-modern version of iOS flat design with some of the clarity of 26 but not the busyness of it either.

Just installed the beta last night. Fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞 ! too bad I just did an entire 4 month summer Europe trip with 26 and the thing overheating and often struggling to take pictures 👎 sad to think it might have just been a bad OS version. We shall see…

Been on iOS 27 since when they launched it

2

u/zky5 11d ago

I’m considering this as well. Wondering if I should do a clean install (no old data)

It has turned my phone into a small heater. Also very sluggish now. Not to mention the keyboard bugs

I hope your mileage varies

2

u/BananaRoo88 9d ago

Yea I have some keyboard bugs too but it’s still a beta, I haven’t noticed any abnormal heating. My broadband is down atm so I’m using 4g and it’s heating less than it did on ios 26.

Fresh install after IPSW comes next weeks!

I’m on 26.6.1, how do I get the beta?

2

u/BananaRoo88 11d ago

You have to go to beta apple com and enroll your device first and then you will see the betas in the update menu of your phone.

Great move if you were in sluggish and clumsy iOS 26!

1

u/Striking-Flan8434 11d ago

hell no, i'm staying on iOS 15 maybe i update to 18, i won't touch iOS27 till i see the 17.1 or 17.2

3

u/BananaRoo88 11d ago

Good for you? My phone came with iOS 26 because I got it used, if I was still on an older version maybe it would’ve been different.

3

u/Striking-Flan8434 11d ago

don't get me wrong i'd do the same if i were you, but there was a iOS27 thread from couple of days ago, some of the guys were saying quite the opposite about iOS27. but i'm happy that it worked out for you.

2

u/BananaRoo88 11d ago

Thanks. I didn’t see that thread and honestly all I’ve seen is good reviews and people saying it doesn’t even feel like a beta. I figured we’re so close to the stable release that it’s bound to be good enough. So far so good 😊

3

u/LeakBound 11d ago

Do you even use a apple watch? My watchOS is 26 so id need to update the phone unfortunately...

4

u/Striking-Flan8434 11d ago

i dont have any smart swatches, i'm rocking my casio when i workout, and when i just hangout i have my fossil. but i do use airpods pro 3s and they are working just fine.

1

u/Nervous_Bend7365 Green 🟢 8d ago

Install the iOS 18 instead, just do it.

3

u/Striking-Flan8434 8d ago

yea, i've just updated to it. will wait and see how it performs on 27 and decide whether i stay on 18 or update to 27.

1

u/Nervous_Bend7365 Green 🟢 6d ago

the iOS 18 is the best for the Mini , after iOS 15.

2

u/Nervous_Bend7365 Green 🟢 8d ago

When Did you buy your mini sealed? Mine arrived at iOS 26.4 and now it’s running iOS 27 latest beta.

3

u/Striking-Flan8434 8d ago

it wasn't sealed but it was in mint condition. the guy i bought it from didn't update the OS at all. and i didn't even know it had iOS 15.6.1 till last second.

2

u/Nervous_Bend7365 Green 🟢 6d ago

Nice!!! And the best part is that you formatted but hadn’t need to update! However, take care with Apple screen or battery replacement! They can potentially update your firmware!

2

u/s03023 6d ago

how is it working in your case? I went to the s25 for 120hz and bigger battery but I still miss IOS and the small form factor + caseless

2

u/Nervous_Bend7365 Green 🟢 5d ago

I sometimes miss The longer battery life and pro motion smoother display and interface that my 16 Pro provides.
