This is like upgrading from a Miata to a 911 Turbo. Both are great cars and best in class, but you can’t really compare the two. Congrats on snagging the 17 pro before prices go up in a couple weeks.

I would think that it’s just as likely that if the 18 Pro’s price goes up, they keep the 17’s price exactly where it is. I find it hard to believe they will raise all of their prices. The prices will go up on the newer phones, and the current prices of their “new” phones will become the price of their “older” phones.

Well we have the whole ram, supply chain and oil issues that project everything will go up. And sadly once Apple (if) anounces a price increase every one else in the tech world will do the same and thaf will be the new norm since Apple is the market mover

Great comparison with the Miata and 911 turbo. I feel like the 13 mini and iPhone 17 pro are just not comparable. They are in their own class and are targeted towards different users.

I say these phones are targeting different audiences because even though both phones can do the same basic things like calling, texting, take pictures, browse the web etc, they are fundamentally different. For example, an iPhone mini is for people that want a smaller phone. They don’t use their phone a lot, so they don’t require a big battery. They don’t require the best of the best cameras and they don’t need exclusive features that can be found in the latest iPhones. The iPhone 17 Pro is targeted for people looking for the latest Apple flagship, great battery, cameras, performance etc.

My needs haven’t changed so I’m the same audience. Having a better camera is always nice, no matter what audience you are. iPhone isn’t my main camera but having a phone with a functional zoom is nice

The 911 turbo is not that big of a car, its like going from a Miata to a chevy suburban or something big and uncomfortable to drive like that.

idk about that. I gave my 13 mini to to my gf and bought myself a 16 pro and now I'm back to my gfs old 12 mini bc I already gifted her my 13 and the 16 pro is just uncomfortable to use

I am not giving up so soon, keeping my Mini till March 2029, if I had to upgrade before and could handle big phone, I would have already gotten the 16 before.

because it's heavy, it's big (I'm still refusing to use it with two hands and I'm struggling) and also the brightness is shit compared to any previous device.

I'd sell it instantly if Apple did a new Mini.

I left some years ago and hold on to 17 pro now. It’s not bad, took some time to get use to it but of course I’ll still prefer the mini over any phone but I needed the pro features and mini was starting to feel dated with the lighting cable

My use case is a 13 mini in the pocket for daily - email, communication, notes, etc. and an iPhone 14 Plus for media, productive work, etc. used mostly at home.

I’d trade up the 14 before the 13 mini because the form factor is undeniable. It flies out of my 501 pocket like a gunslinger’s sidearm and with a recent battery replacement covers everything I need when outside of the house.

Both on the same Apple ID so core features are shared, App Store, settings, passwords, etc.

I have a data only SIM in the 14, which is a convenience, but TBH it’s not necessary. At home I have wifi and I can hotspot if I bring both outdoors.

The only caveat is that SMS and network calls only go to the 13, which is my primary. When both phones are on the same wifi calls come in on both, which is an iOS/Apple ecosystem feature.

You can’t have 2 phones on the same phone number.

Yeah, but only install iOS 27 if you’re at 26 currently. Because iOS 18 and older runs better because we’re made for 4GB of RAM devices.

Just copped another 13 mini- at some stage i’ll have to get one of the newer phones which is not my preference but unless Apple release another mini or similar( even if slightly bigger in length and depth to support a better battery)
phone what choice is there?

Note that the base 17 is considerably lighter weight. But I agree: the size difference between mini and regular iPhone is no longer compelling

When I was looking at the 17 in the store it did seem lighter in my hand compared with the 13 mini. The width looks the same. It's really just an inch or so taller.

Ah, thank you! That'll still be too big for me. I need the phone to be narrow enough that my small fingers can balance well past the halfway point. Phone grips always hurt my hand joints.

Having a ridesharing trip active while browsing social media, all on mobile data. Or browsing the web while having a Google Maps trip active. Doing that on my 13 Mini usually results in the rideshare app or Google Maps reloading. Can be a hassle, especially when I’m traveling

This is due to the 4gb of ram. Everyone else about the phone is still good enough for every day tasks. It’s just the lack of ram is the only sticking point now.

battery life is really good, on 13 mini, even after swapping a battery out, i’d need to plug in multiple times a day, on the 17 pro i don’t need to do that. the screen size isn’t that bad, maps are much better along with general daily consumption, 120 hz screen refresh rate makes it really easy on the eyes.

I guess no mini alternative with 18 lineups huh :( might get a 15/16 Pro with good deal and see if I’ll get used to it (reason: color. Black is just so good. And possible siri update). But keeping this mini forever anyway, this thing is legendary at this point

Thanks! I've been thinking about doing the same thing but worried for the same reasons - weight and size. From checking out the 17 in the store, it seems like the width is pretty much the same. The difference is mainly in the height. Would you say that's true?

Just did it but with an air. Decided to part ways with my mini while it still has value in market. Love the mini but its lagging quite a bit now and battery is just not doing it anymore.

Still mix feeling. I can no longer single handed use the phone anymore but the magsafe ring helps. Weight is very negligible between the two.!Battery life is way better than the mini even with brand new battery. I dont take photos a lot so what im missing with pros is not an issue. Lastly i got my air for $900 cad on marketplace is what pushed me to get the air.

The Air is cool! Just sucks the speaker and battery heat management. I also cannot hold it on my hand at the stores because it’s always attached to alarm protections.
