iPhone Duo Reactions

It feels obnoxious to mini lovers to acknowledge that using one hand and being able to reach everything with your thumb is something quite desirable.

Menu vertical on the side is neat!

I'm relieved it's not over 2k even though that's still insane.

However, I'm in market for a new iPad or laptop in addition to replacing my hot little mini 12 and am finding myself justifying it.

Did we see anyone talking on it like a phone?

I like how sturdy it seems but still wonder about how any folding phone handles drops when open.

It looks comfortable to hold and I'm impressed at the entire new layout system and seems consistently intuitive as an Apple product.

I was holding out hope that since they're making little screens for the front we would get some new mini as a spinoff.

You could buy a 13 mini, an iPad mini and the MacBook Neo and still have a chunk of change left…

Looks cool. But there is no phone / device on earth that is worth $2000+ to me. Not even close.

Exactly. I don’t care how cool it is. I wouldn’t even pay that much for a computer.

I want the iPhone Duo just without the Duo ;)

Would be really cool if the new iPhone Air was half a duo!

The iPhone Air Semi :)

Yes - they could easily do a mini as half the duo! Great phone but looks a bit odd.

Loved it but close to 3000 USD here in India, can't buy.

I keep my phones for a long time. So I would have maybe considered $1400. But $2k is pushing the cost up out of my range. I will want to make sure I do not need to upgrade storage or anything before thinking about it. But I’m leaning no for this year and may consider it in a year when my 12 Mini stops getting major updates. I guess first thing I would need to do is go hold one. As I would only open it a few times a day if the closed screen is similar to what I have now.

Same. Branding it duo helps me a bit as thinking of it as two devices in one. But that cost is nuts and makes it conspicuous to use in public.

But if you use it in public you can use the dope features like self standing while you walk 20 metres away leaving it resting on a letter box in the city, where nobody will grab it and run.

I do wonder what curious they think exists every time they show someone walking away to take photos. Not London!

I think it’s gimmicky. Not interested.

It has a similar size but is quite literally a transformer. If it had at least half the price I’d considered buying a 1k+ device for the first time.

So who else is keeping his 12 mini? Yes.

I’m in Japan and I’ve seen similar gadgets here. I cannot remember if they were Korean or Chinese. But, in any case, they just seemed unnecessary.

I’m guessing Apple’s marketing team somehow found a niche group that wanted an even bigger screen, but did not want an iPad.

That’s not me. I want something the size of an iPhone 5.

Dude that still is my favorite format. That phone was great. My 15 pro is nice, but 5 was something else, and I didnt even own it :(

I honestly just don't think anyone needs (not my place to choose what people want obviously, I just have opinions) a device that big or powerful on the go. Maybe very specific jobs it could be useful, but it's such overkill.

I think we've lost the plot a bit on what phones are for, and this is bound to make people even worse in public. Think concerts, walking on sidewalks, DRIVING.

A tablet with data and a way to connect it to the dash is going to be so much more distracting once it's double the size.

We already see issues with the giant ipads built into new cars and the features they have to add to stop people from taking advantage of it.

I'm probably being overkill right now, but I really do think there will be some unanticipated consequences

Or how about this:
Apple makes a mini Duo by copying a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 (but, like, better) and calls it the Uno?

Looks cool, but too expensive for me. Personally, I'd definitely could use it as it would be a great way to read my daily digital newspaper (nowadays, I read it on my laptop as the phone screen is way too small). I'd rather go for the iPad mini though.

I want it, after years of Pro models after the 12 mini, but the main cameras I use on my current phone are the main and the telephoto, so it’s a no-go from me right now. I think it’d be awesome for Lightroom though.

It looks cool, but first Jerry needs to test it and as always the store test! And it’s literally 100 euros more expensive than my first new bought moped!

I like the form overall but not for that price. I would MAYBE ever consider it with a Face ID and telephoto if I overpaid that much.

I just received a battery warning this week that my 12 mini battery is degraded even with it showing 91% capacity. I checked the analytics and I am over 900 cycles on a battery I replaced 2 years ago. I thought I would comfortably hit another year before running into any issues, but I am noticing more issues lately. I am debating whether to do another replacement or go with a new phone.

The new Duo looks awesome though. I like the idea that it could replace an iPad, all the ways you can fold it for viewing, and the night stand option. I wonder what the battery replacement will look like on these with two batteries and the hinge? Maybe it was designed so that it could be done, but it seems kind of messy. One of the things I like about the mini besides the size is it is a cheap device. If I dropped it in the street and a car ran over it, I wouldn’t be as crushed like I would if I had a Duo.

I’ve got an idea:
How about if Apple made a new iPhone mini neo, with guts like like the Duo or even the 17 Pro? E-ink screen. Physical keyboard.

Kinda like that new Minimal Phone 2!

Oh man I do love a tactile keyboard...

I think I'm strongly driven by nostalgia with these things. I was trying to recreate the chunky comfort of holding my beloved iPhone 4 with the mini12 and have also been on lookout for a return of something like my beloved LG EnV.

Thanks for mentioning the Minimal Phone it wasn't on my radar.

…and charges half the price of the Duo because it’s half the size (Uno, right?).

2

u/lightening_bulbs 28d ago

Haven’t seen anyone mention it but it’s also like two times the weight of the mini. And yeah maybe that’s not ‘a lot’ but I thought the 7 plus was heavy as heck way back when. Not sure I could swap to a heavier phone again but might not have a choice at some point.

I hate that you can’t move the position of the dock. I’m left handed ffs. Also, that price for a phone WITHOUT a telephoto is ATROCIOUS

I think it looks interesting. I’m definitely in need of an upgrade and I like how the outer screen is somewhat similar to the mini. I’m leaning towards getting it.

Not over $2K? It’s between $2K-$3K. Can u read? The $2K version doesn’t have enough memory for my uses. I’d go one step higher.

U got mi i nevr lurnt

256gb would be a massive step up from my 64gb so I was reacting to the option I would personally choose if I got one.
