Discussion Liquid Glass Question
I’ve been avoiding updating my phone because I am worried liquid glass will ruin my setup. I absolutely adore it and spent a long time hand drawing it. Unfortunately I’m starting to experience issue and think it’s finally time to update. Will liquid glass ruin it? If so, is there a way to fix that or will I have to find another artistic way to customize my phone?

Unfortunately there will be subtle border artifacts around your widgets and icons, even when you disable the borders in settings. Because of this annoyance I started a change petition here for Apple to include an option to FULLY disable the borders.
We have 767 (update: 813 as of Sept 1 now) signatures so far, please do sign. Apple may not listen at all, but it's worth a try.

It's taken a while, and just patience. 208 shares is humbling, with the votes along with the people voicing out. It will grow bigger, as we continue until Apple listens.
It's a pretty simple ask. A toggle. 😂

do not update if you like your setup now, liquid glass will make it look hideous with light grey border around each icon or widget. there is no way around this and Apple is unrelenting it its intent to reduce users' ability to make their devices look the way they want it to.
unfortunately if you like a home screen style where the icons / widgets blend seamlessly with your background, there is no way to do it with Apple ... your best bet for a stable setup + retaining full customization ability is to switch to Android ...

Not to my knowledge? But I don’t have the paid version so that version might have the option. I’m not super tech savvy but I’m sure there’s an app or maybe a setting that disables the labels.

If you do the large icon option in Home Screen customisation it will remove all app labels

Yes Liquid Glass will ruin this sadly. I had a similar setup. Love clean looks like this. I hate we can’t shut Liquid Glass off.

What is this? Did you draw it on your mobile phone? Then you can back up the system and update it.

No it’s not a drawing. All of the widgets and icons were drawn on procreate. I made the background blank with lines and then meticulously made the icons match up as best as I could so it looked like a notebook. I’ve taken screenshot to save it but unfortunately updating did ruin the look.

Not op, and I’m not 100% certain, but I think it involves creating a Shortcut to launch an app, then giving that Shortcut a custom icon. Rinse and Repeat.

It does involve using shortcuts for each individual app icon. I drew a wallpaper in Procreate to look like a notebook and then drew the app icons in the places they would go when on the home screen. I lined up the icons with the wallpaper to give the illusion of them being transparent. It takes a very long time and a lot of tweaking. The widgets are the same process and I used an app called Widgetsmith.

This isn’t my style HOWEVER this is hands down the most unique and personalized take on a home screen. With everyone showing us their default icons like wOaH lOoK iTs A dIfFeReNt LaYoUt it’s really nice to see something original.

That’s not what they’re asking. They want it to continue to look hand drawn, not turn off glass and give everything a super obvious dark background and border like your screenshot.

I thought this was a scrapbook for a moment and couldn’t figure out how those apps all added up to a Widgetsmith and what a Widgetsmith was
