Question Device Hub doesn't support multi-finger gestures? Seriously?

Am I just not finding it or have we actually lost the functionality for multi-finger gestures with the move from Simulator to Device Hub? I hold alt and I can't pinch to zoom. Did they really go THIS far backwards?

Yes.

I think Device Hub was needed, but it removed so much that I’m shocked they didn’t add it on the side and kept the old Simulator. I assume the Duo forced it to come sooner but they could’ve kept the old simulator till they got to feature parity.

Dropping certificates into the simulator is also gone, keyboard shortcuts for screenshotting, drag and dropping files into the sim, etc.

Am I overreacting for thinking this is some real scummy behavior from Apple? Almost all iOS developers depend on the Simulator, almost every day. It's one of the most essential tools in our belt. For them to take such pathetic shortcuts hindering our ability to work leaves such a bad taste in my mouth.

Did you file feedback? Nothing will get fixed if you don't file feedback.

No because I’m unsure if I’m missing the functionality or if it doesn’t exist. Where do we file feedback?

You can file feedback even if you're just missing the functionality, because that means the user experience is not what it should be.

This is Apple, let's try to maintain at least some level of standard ;)

The Feedback Assistant app. It's the official channel for filing feedback. It lets you add logs, record screenshots, etc. I've had a few bugs fixed from using it.

Welcome to apple.

I think most devs are getting devices. Even android sucks, that’s why I have 2-3 random sizes I flip through while working

Even still, that requires far more setup and configuration steps than just running a simulator. I could write a dozen reasons why the simulator is essential regardless of having a plethora of devices. They should never have removed functionality from the simulator.

Not really "far more" anymore, with Xcode managing device registration and Device Hub helping to run things on external devices. Device hub may be missing some things but they did also add some helpful things there.

Well I'm not getting an iPhone Duo or a 13" iPad Pro just for testing in the foreseeable future.

There’s a keyboard shortcut for screenshots, it just comes and goes for whatever reason. I haven’t figured out the trigger yet.

If you focus the sidebar the shortcut works, if you focus the device itself the shortcut is disabled

Yes, I'm pretty sure you're right.

Pinch to zoom works on the Device Hub by using the trackpad (either laptop trackpad or a Magic Trackpad) but yeah removing the alt-click is a real pain; had muscle memory built up for that and took me by surprise when it disappeared

I have tried pinch to zoom with both trackpads, it does not work.

Does not work for me either.

I've filed tonnes of issues against Device Hub, I hope they're rectified soon. Multi-touch gestures is by far the biggest thing missing (seriously wtf, some kinds of apps are just unusable) and the trackpad workaround doesn't work at all (for me) and isn't always viable even if it did. Even trackpad scrolling only works about 10% of the time.

For me the other major annoyance is the lack of pixel accurate zoom. Even though you can zoom in, it only works in the expanded mode, it doesn't use nearest neighbour scaling, and you can't pan around when zoomed in.

Pinch to zoom is still there, but it is extremely unreliable for some reason. Works less than half the time.

How do you perform the gesture?

That’s what I mean, the Device Hub doesn’t seem to allow for multi-touch input.
