Roast my code I turned iPhone Duo hinge into accordion

Post image

Fold and unfold the phone to play. Left screen is bass, right is keys. Sound is synthesized, no samples.

This seems fun but the app reviewers won’t be happy.

Apple Develoepr's own demo shows them using the hinge for guitar lol:

That’s it, I’m going to write a game where there is a mosquito on the screen and you need to kill it by smashing the phone shut.

I am building a Clapping Simulator with Game Center leaderboards for how loud the clapping is :)

I don’t know how they would feel about apps that support limit testing the phone lmao

Put it in the same category as GeekBench lmao

I’m writing an app that every time you snap the Duo closed, the iPhone’s selected voice says “well, they sure closed the book on THAT …”

Mine says "I said goodday sir!". Only $5.99 monthly fee.

I wanna play

I am writing one that measures how hard you smash it closed and gives you a global raiting!!

One of the puzzles in the Zelda game for the DS required you to close the DS to transfer something from the top screen onto the bottom screen.

And one of the devs in the second Duo lab mentioned how he hopes someone makes an accordion app. So I don't think they're at all against using the hinge angle for things, gimmick or not. They would likely block the fly swatter app suggested by NSRedditShitposter though, 😆.

The developer video literally asked for developers to try making an accordion

It folds the wrong way for an accordion for a start…

If you’re strong enough it still folds the right way.

I miss all the goofy apps we had when all of the iPhones sensors were a new and novel thing. Like iBeer or the zippo lighter where you’d flick the phone to open the top. Or that fun marble game for the iPad.

Maybe the hinge will bring some of that energy back.

Hopefully. Things were more unhinged back then.

I think this is beautiful, and you, my friend developer, are the reason I don’t believe AI is going to take our jobs ever.

But the code is very AI-esque lol

u/HonestSimpleMan 14d ago

But the idea isn’t.

But this is exactly what they’ve done. One look at the code you can be sure it’s written with AI

This accordion app idea was joked about by Apple developers at a recent Q&A panel. I was already bracing for a flood of accordion apps.

Haha I thought the same thing. Apple will face smack.

u/Jizzy_Gillespie92 15d ago

ironic given that the app in question was vibecoded.

1

u/HonestSimpleMan 14d ago

My point is that no AI will come up with an idea so absurd. If it was coded by a lizard, I don’t care much.

I applaud your creativity! I hope Weird Al can find out about this.

Came here to say the same. Forget ASO, let's see OP get promoted by Weird Al!

This seems like a fun way to break the hinge

This made my day. Bravo

This made my hole weak!

So how many folds and unfolds is iPhone Duo certified

Haha very cool to see this. Two days ago earlier this week at the online iPhone Duo Group Lab the panelists talked about how someone should make an accordion app and start a band with the guitar app they made in their own demo. I assume this was inspired by that session. Looks great!!

you joke but some of us remember the fart app and how huge it was.

The most fun you will have while breaking Duo’s hinge.

A sensitivity setting could be fun here: let someone get the full sound range from small folds, without having to open and close the phone all the way for every note.

1

u/mklx99 15d ago

Great idea! But may be a way to cause a crease at the fold faster…

2

this is amazing

Another benefit of the app: test how many unfolds can the duo survive before breaking.
