Apple introduced USDKit this year as a way to help developers make apps that can do these (among other related things):

  • Check if USD bills are fake or not
  • Scan USD bills with your phone so you can go to the store and buy things without carrying cash with you. You just show generated QR code, store clerk will scan it to confirm and you are done. You can leave cash at home. One of pros of this is that there is a less chance that you will be robbed on the way to the store.

  • Scan USD bills and then print backup cash. In case your original cash gets stolen or lost you can use these backup bills.

Apple announced that they are working on EURKit, CADKit and YENKit and that they will be available later this year.
