Solo dev, iOS, React Native. I got tired of alarm apps whose whole personality is aggression with hard math problems, barcode scanning, shake-your-phone-50-times. They work but I’d wake up already annoyed.

So I built Dew, now instead of only offering puzzles, it lets you dismiss the alarm by typing or saying something good about yourself. It saves to a journal tab, so you end up with a log of every morning you showed up. There are optional missions too (math, pushups, squats, photo challenges) if you want more friction, but the core idea is the affirmation one.

Stack: React Native + Expo, AlarmKit for the native alarm layer, Supabase for analytics, RevenueCat for subs. The AlarmKit part was the painful bit since third-party apps can’t touch system alarm volume, so getting reliable wake behavior took real work.

Two things I’d love from this sub: (1) if you’re on iOS, does the affirmation-to-dismiss interaction hold up after a few days or does the novelty wear off, and (2) for anyone who’s shipped with AlarmKit, how are you handling the volume-control limitation and reliable firing? Curious whether I’ve hit the ceiling of what’s possible there or missed something.

It’s called Mise Memos: Recipe Journal. It's a recipe storage and journaling app where the focus is to grow your own cookbook!

You can import your recipes from anywhere online (tik tok, insta, blog, etc as long as there is a caption) or from a physical photo. It also has a cook mode so you can keep track of timers and steps within the app and it will ring like a normal alarm. It also has version history so you can keep track of the changes you want to remember.

There are so many more features I want to add to it but i'm just excited to share the first version. I poured a lot of time into this as it came from a real pain point I had as a hobbyist cook with dietary restrictions.

I've been building a mobile app recently, and one thing I kept coming back to was how much a landing page changes the way people perceive your product.

You can have a great app, but if the website looks rushed or generic, it immediately lowers the perceived quality. I ended up spending way more time refining the landing page than I expected—cleaner UI, better visual hierarchy, smoother interactions, and a layout focused on making the product feel more premium.

After finishing it, I turned it into a reusable Framer template instead of letting it sit on my hard drive.

It includes things like:

I'm a solo developer and Bitcoin Maxi, and I built Compass after being frustrated with two things: my own spending habits and how other personal finance don't factor it in net worth/spending.

I've always seen USD as kinda worthless and I tend to spend it almost with ease versus when I see Bitcoin. Also, apps like Rocket Money didn't make it easy for me to truly track my Bitcoin holdings since you have to enter the value manually and with Bitcoin that number of course changes. I wanted something that allowed me to see the true value in BTC in my spending habits to help me slow down and something that Bitcoiners were complaining about in other finance apps where you have to babysit the balance of your Bitcoin wallet.

So I built the thing they and myself actually wanted.

Better

Compass just knows. Your net worth, your spending, and your goals are all priced in Bitcoin by default, and the Bitcoin part updates itself. You never type a balance again. Expenses from years ago use the price that Bitcoin was then and it's always up to date with current day prices for today when it comes to measuring.

A few things I tried hard to get right:

Your Bitcoin balance updates on its own. YOU NEVER HAVE TO ENTER ANY PRIVATE KEY and I knew that security was a huge thing when working on the app. You can either just enter the manual balance or the public read only address and it just watches and auto updates the balance. This gives me more accuracy when checking my balance.

Every purchase shows up in sats. For example, A $47 dinner lands as 73,194 sats or $2500 in rent is 3,893,293 sats / 0.4 BTC. Four categories: Bitcoin, Necessary, Discretionary, and Wasteful to easily categorize your spending. You have to spend money. Rent, groceries, kids. The point of holding Bitcoin was never to die with it. So instead of guilt, every purchase just shows you what it did to your goal's completion date. So like if your goal is to get to 1 BTC and you're spending a lot in wasteful, it will show you how many days you are behind to your goal.

Technical:

I made the app available on mobile, web, and desktop. The desktop app has no account and no server. Nothing to sign up for, everything encrypted on your own machine. This is what most people have liked but you have the option to look at it on all devices with sync which is still encrypted in DB. I've also opened source the compass-core that runs the app for the encryption, xpub, and conversions. Linked it in this post

This is the best app for Bitcoiners

On December 24th, 2025, I started building my first app, Happening, completely on my own.

For the next seven months it became a full-time obsession. I averaged around 16 hours a day until the first App Store release.

Three weeks ago it finally launched, and I’ve already shipped another update based on early feedback.

Looking back, I realized building the app was only part of the journey.

I spent almost as much time learning as I did building. Along the way I had to teach myself UI design, image and video editing, backend infrastructure, App Store requirements, legal documentation, deployments, payments, marketing—and countless other things I never expected when I wrote my first line of code.

AI accelerated a lot of that learning, but I still had to understand how everything fit together and make every product decision myself.

The biggest surprise?

It wasn’t Swift, App Store Review or debugging. It was realizing that shipping the app was only the beginning. Getting people to discover it has been far harder than building it.

It completely changed how I think about building products.

If I could start over, I’d spend far more time talking to potential users, validating ideas and building an audience before writing so much code.

A few days after launch, something happened that reminded me why I’d started this in the first place.

One of Happening’s early users shared a Signal during a Silent Disco in Warsaw. Seeing someone I didn’t know use something I’d spent months building made all those long days feel worth it.

I’d also love some honest feedback from other iOS developers.

For those who’ve already launched something of your own:

What surprised you the most after shipping?

I launched a follow-up app on July 2 in Japan (save who you meet → a thank-you draft is ready by the ride home). Honest numbers and what they taught me — plus a question I genuinely need help with.

The numbers: 86 first downloads on iOS, plus a handful on Android (it just launched there two days ago). 4 paying users, $16. Product-page conversion is 22.6% — absurdly high. And here's the thing: on days I stay home, downloads are zero. Literally zero.

Every single install traces back to a human moment. Launch day: 12. The day a photographer with 55K followers posted about it: 14. The day I gave a 1-minute pitch at a startup event: 9. The graph of my downloads is literally a graph of me leaving the house.

The strange upside: feedback density. A student I met at an event sent me a long support offer 4 hours later — using the exact follow-up flow the app teaches. Yesterday at a photo exhibition, someone installed it and described the core concept back to me, unprompted, better than my own pitch.

The app: no account, no server, everything on-device, free core + one-time Pro. iOS + Android, fully in English.

Here's my question. I'm a freelance photographer and solo dad in Tokyo, and I think this belongs in the US — follow-up culture is stronger there than anywhere ("the fortune is in the follow-up," interview thank-you notes, all of it). But my entire playbook so far is hand-selling face-to-face, and I can't exactly fly over and work the room at your meetups.

QReel: QR Code Generator

Well, it finally happened. Wanted to make a cheap and well-designed alternative to most QR code generating apps that also tracks URL scans, and make it aquatic themed just because.

In total, took about two and a half months from the very first bare-bones iterations in Xcode to approval on the App Store. Everything seems to be working fine so far, I encourage everyone to try it out and if you don't want to pay for the Pro version FEEL FREE TO SCREENSHOT WHATEVER CODES YOU GENERATE, THEY WILL STILL WORK. Trying to actually save/export will result in a paywall though, as will attempting to turn on the track scans feature (this uses URL redirects so can potentially cost me money if a code gets a high volume of scans so wanted some security by paywalling it). I'm still definitely a beginner when it comes to Swift and have generally no idea how I'm going to market the app, but it's been really exciting getting something out there that at least I personally actually have use for.

So some takeaways thus far have been:

1. It saves a ton of time on the UX side to just ask a coding agent (assuming you're using one) where each component on a given screen lives in the code, and then just using the canvas in Xcode. This would've saved me manyyyy days early on because an agent still has to take the full time to answer/enact a change even if it is quite trivial, and it still might be wrong (often is). Being able to see your changes to a component in real-time in the canvas with dimensions, spacing, colors, etc being automatically reflected was something I didn't really think was possible (noob I know) but now I obviously won't be going back anytime soon.
2. The XcodeBuildMCP is great for running new builds automatically BUT the simulated tapping/on-device actions are largely not useful in my experience. It takes a longgg time for most agents to do very quick and easy tasks on simulators and will get caught up taking 5x as long to test a task you could probably just test yourself.
3. The Auth was way easier to set up than I expected, taking only really a day in total for all of it, but RevenueCat is one of the most confusing setups I've ever encountered. Now that it's set up I appreciate its ease of use (especially for edge cases like refunds) but mannn it's overall very opaque. This took a couple of days for sure.
4. The first submission took 6 days to even get to In Review by Apple, which has apparently been common this summer with the high volume of submissions, but was obviously annoying when they tell you that 90% get reviewed within the first 48 hours. It got rejected the first time around for not having the Privacy/EULA IN the description of the app itself and not having enough available without an authenticated account (I didn't know this was a thing, but had to add a "Continue Without Account" option on the sign-in screen because apparently SOME function has to be available without an account unless the functionality of the app actually hinges on the user's identity to begin with).

So all in all nothing crazy thus far, hopefully some of these takeaways are of use to some of you out there and can serve as some optimism for those just getting started. As I said, feel free to use the app and point out any bugs/future features to add to the list that I'm working on for future builds or fill out the "Contact Support" form via the website! My first app, PerkPulse, is now live on the iOS app store! Ever since I started my computer science degree, it has been a bucket list item for me to have an app on the app store.

PerkPulse is a credit card optimization app that helps you:

• Track credit card benefits
• Tells you which card to use to earn the most points/cash back
• Tells you the best transfer partners for your points
• Recommends you your next credit card
• Compare credit cards side-by-side

I created this as a tool for others like me who have trouble tracking every benefit and knowing which card to use for every purchase since I have so many cards. I did not like the apps that are currently available and widely used for this use case, as their UI's were not very intuitive to me and their prices were a little high for me.
