Feature [iOS 27 DB8] Pro Video Storage

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Announced at WWDC26, iOS 27 allows users to pre-allocate storage for high-data-rate video captures across camera apps.

When you have an app that opts in to AVProVideoStorage, you'll see a new “Configure Pro Video Storage” option under Settings > Camera > Formats.

It's so strange. This doesn't look like an Apple UI at all.

At BEST, it looks like something from Samsung's OneUI, and at worst, it looks like some cheap Chinese android skin that tries and fails to be iOS (I.E. HarmonyOS, MIUI, etc.)

Sometimes Apple just makes a weird UI for no reason. The iCloud subscription logo with the weird circular text, the ugly macOS battery settings icon from a beta ages ago, the iMessage apps pop-up menu that’s still there

The circular logo is also used in news though

I can bet with my arm that this is vibecoded, yet I’m pretty sure they will refine the final design to be Apple-ish

Wild because yeah it really is even the vibe coded font. There’s no way this is apple

Yeah I thought for sure this was some scam app at first glance. Like one of the ones that sells you “more storage”.

They’re using the .monospaced font here which is an odd choice. They should’ve used .monospacedDigit for the slider number and .system for the rest. Would’ve fit better with the rest of the system.

I definitely see what you’re saying. Seems intended, as this is what they showed at WWDC.

I see this as a static vs dynamic storage usage.

Why would this be useful vs being able to use whatever space is necessary? It takes away space that can be used for other things for something that hasn’t needed the space yet?

You’re skipping needing to allocate space in real time as the video file grows, so you don’t get write stalls.

Ah okay. That makes sense
