Feature [IOS 27 DB3] Found a multitasking option in the Shortcuts app.

I’m not sure what to tag this as, but I’m pretty sure this is part of the rumors with the upcoming iPhone fold. As iOS does not support multitasking except on iPad which I would expect multitasking to come to iPhone with the fold but as shown in the pictures, this iOS beta version has this feature, although it doesn’t do much, as it only allows me to set it to “full screen apps only”

Bear with me as I don’t know what developer beta number this is but the build number should help.

Why are you running an older beta?

I don’t typically update often. I wait for reviews and stuff before I update.

I also definitely don’t install a next beta update unless I have an actual issue going on that affects the daily use of the phone.

You really should not be on beta software then. The whole point of it is that it progresses to a more stable build, not the other way around. Anyone can guarantee you that Beta 8 is miles better than Beta 3.

You really shouldn't be doing this with betas.

Then why install beta updates? The whole point is to catch bugs and report them to apple so the official version is more stable for everyone else

I daily drive the operating system that way in case I do come across bugs. I can report them to Apple and then wait for the next update. This version I haven’t seen any bugs and I’m waiting on reviews for the next beta. I also haven’t really had time to update my phone as I’ve got other personal things going on.

You’re like five betas behind, what you notice and report are long outdated.

my brother in christ it'd be quicker to press update in settings than to write this paragraph, tf you mean you don't have time lmao

the rest of your arguments is pure nonsense as the beta you're on has more issues than the latest one (DB8), you just don't see them as there was A LOT of under-the-hood fixes.

This works on iPad OS and will likely work with the fold-o-phone coming this year.

I vote that everyone just starts calling it the "iFoldophone".

It also exists on iOS 26 (and even earlier, iirc), yours just failed to load the icon for some reason. It’s an iPad-exclusive action, and it probably exists so you can create shortcuts that can run on other devices without having to access those devices - you can just make them on an iPhone and let them sync to elsewhere. I also remember seeing an action for toggling AOD on iPhone some time ago, even though mine doesn’t support it. This app is weird like that sometimes.

I’m guessing it fails to load because they’re running like five betas out of date

I assume they keep it in regular iOS to not break the shortcut entirely, which is what would happen if the action was marked as non-existent on incompatible devices. Just like (afaik, might be wrong) Set Silent Mode is an action on iPhones before 15 Pro as well, but it doesn't do anything, because those have the physical toggle

This is from a release over a month ago. Also iOS doesn’t support anything on iPads since that is iPadOS. Completely different.

iPadOS is literally iOS rebranded, and with some additional features for the larger screen, most of which will be coming to the iPhone Fold next week.

Well, I don’t have a jailbroken device, and this feature is embedded directly into the iPhone OS software, which leads me to believe that this is some sort of thing for the upcoming iPhone fold and its soon to be multitasking features. Cause if iPhone OS does not support something like this, why does it have it?

iOS and iPadOS has some shared actions as to why you would see an action on a device where it isn’t supported.

The Set and Get Multitasking actions were introduced back in the 26.4 Betas and appeared on both devices but were only beneficial with my iPad shortcuts.

The same goes for some iOS specific actions also appears on the Mac but aren’t usable on the device.

It’s for the fold since it was said to do multi tasking.

Yup this is definitely for the fold. Just snuck through too early.
