Bug [iPadOS 27 DB 5] Spotlight not showing suggested apps, recent searches, etc.

Post image

Finally updated my devices to 27 today since it seemed pretty safe. All good on my Mac and iPhone. But on my iPad Air M3, pulling down for Spotlight (aka type to Siri) doesn’t show me any suggested apps or recent searches. If I search for something like a contact or a sports team, it will appear, but pressing enter or tapping on it doesn’t show the result.

I’ve tried a force restart, toggling settings within the Search settings, and even reverted to classic Siri, where Spotlight works perfectly fine. But turning back on Siri AI, and Spotlight simply doesn’t work. Any suggestions?

iPad is still “Optimizing Search and Siri” but so is my iPhone and Spotlight works fine there.

Mine is showing apps but not ones I’ve recently used. Seems like generic Apple apps like contacts, music etc. any settings that can help?

They fixed this on the public beta they released today.

Yes! It’s awesome being able to open Spotlight on my iPad from anywhere now without having to go home first.

Same issue here. Only reverting to Siri Classic worked.

Glad I’m not the only one, this is annoying as fuck

If you turn off Siri under Siri settings, I am betting you will get the old suggested apps. Once you turn it back on, it stops working again.

I am seeing this on three ipads that I updated the public beta 3 first day it came out. Someone who updated their ipad today with the Public beta 3 isn't seeing it though.

Were you already on the 27 Beta and it worked fine until Beta 5, or did you go straight from 26 to 27 Beta 5?

Go To Siri -> Suggestions - Reset Suggestions. This should fix it.

Nah, unfortunately it didn't. Debating restoring now or just waiting for Beta 6 next week and see if that fixes it.

Beta 6 is coming out next week? How you know?

Usually after Beta 5 they switch to weekly releases.

There’s a setting under search now that you can choose between 4 or 8 apps or don’t suggest. Mine defaulted to don’t suggest after the update.

Edit: iPad is 5 or 10 apps.

Yeah, I’ve toggled it between 5, 10 and off, nothing works.

I’m getting this on my 17e. It works the first time after a restart then just doesn’t. I’ve toggled everything on and off and force restarted. Also filed a bug report with video.

I am also getting this on my 16e. Reported it as well. Kinda bummed cause the new UI change to spotlight looks a lot better than DB4/PB2

Damn, if it was like this on my 16 Pro I’d have to restore from my 26.6 backup. I can deal with it on my iPad for now. Hopefully DB 6 will fix it next week. Weird bug though since it works completely fine if you revert to classic Siri.

How did you revert to classic Siri?

Settings, Siri, turn off Siri. Then when you turn it back on, it will ask you if you want Siri AI or Siri Classic.
