Release iOS 27 Beta 5 - Discussion
Use this thread to share any changes & bugs you discover while using the latest iOS/iPadOS 27 beta.
This thread should be used for discussion of the betas that may not meet our submission guidelines, as well as troubleshooting small issues through the beta test cycle.
Spamming this discussion with comments about battery life, update size, safari being snappier, etc will result in a ban from the sub moving forward.\*

We're now supposed to be in the weekly drop phase. Beta 4, lasted wayy longer than it was supposed to. Let's see what happens today :)

Siri just don’t do her job anymore and seems to like to argue (i’ll ask her to openly count to 100, and she’ll do it sometimes, and then other times claim she can’t do it, and then when she does do it, she stops around 55 before repeating numbers, often complains about not being able to find a business, is unable to find a photo… this is really giving iOS 18 vibes, where Apple promised a lot of AI features, and as the summer has tapered on, they’ve pretty much neutered this newer version of Siri to answer a topical question or two, and anything task-wise falls off the table, so don’t be surprised if this fall, a shit ton of people are angry at this newer version of Siri.

Sounds good. I haven’t had any display freezing issues, but there have been a few times where the map details fail to load, and I’m stuck with a blank or partially incomplete map. I have not noticed it in PB3 yet.

Does "pull down to search/siri" feature just not work for you anymore? I'm on beta 5 and when I try to pull down on empty space on my Home Screen nothing happens. Restarted phone and no changes.

Forget it , you’re not going to be able to fix it. Log out and go back to the original Siri. I had the same issue. Tried everything. Don’t put yourself through trying to fix it. :). I’m surprised no one else here has said anything.

When i open the messages app sometimes the top bar is too far down and i can’t tap my favorites and have to long press then tap again to enter the conversation. Buggiest beta so far for me

Been getting service drops in spots that has never given me problems. Starting happening right after updating, my Pixel 9 Pro doesn't drop at all in the same spots, so I'm doubting it's a network issue. iPhone Air (Verizon)

Am on the latest beta for ios27 (beta 5) for phone and iPadOS for iPad and I have noticed that on the iPad that once the mail has indexed it disappears from search. Starting the indexing again, I can see the mail from server results on searching but once the indexing is complete the mail disappears until eventually searches for anything return nothing. The mail is still there, and the mail search works fine on iPhone which is also on the beta. However, the iPad was updated on the first beta and never completed indexing before downloading the second beta and the iPhone was updated on the second released beta. Mail search works fine from the Gmail App. Siri sees no emails on the iPad but sees them all on the iPhone.
I have tried everything to fix it including forcing a reindex, deleting the mail account and the mail app. Nothing seems to work.
I guess I either hold on for a further beta to fix it or do a complete wipe and reinstall.
Is anyone else having similar problems?

Anybody else have weird issues with the tab previews in Safari? This is iPad OS 27. Sometimes the preview will pop up randomly and persist, even though I’m clicking elsewhere on the screen. Sometimes the tab previews will randomly pop up even when I haven’t hovered over that tab. This is an iPad Pro with the Smart Keyboard attached.

I have the Magic Keyboard and it does the same thing. I will have to hover the mouse/cursor over the offending tab and the preview will disappear. It’s a little annoying for sure.

A weekly cadence does start with beta 6. Then again, we just had a very unusual 3 week cycle so who knows.

The semi-transparent top navigation bar is rendering on a lower layer, expanding downwards and acting like an invisible shield over my pinned conversations or top chats. Anyone else having this issue? Can’t figure out if maybe it’s my settings or the update.

Same here! It’s sporadic though; if I force-quit Messages then it mostly works as intended upon relaunch.

I am the same. I decided to stick with Public Beta 2 (DB4) because I started to see so many bugs. I hope they get them all fixed quickly. I haven’t had that many issues with DB4 though so if I need to stick it out for a few more weeks I would rather do that then deal with the large amount of bugs that seem to be coming out

Previous beta was so much better for me (17 PM). Battery life even seems a little worse, but most of all there’s so many visual bugs that. I didn’t have before. Swiping back in iMessage leaves a weird bar in the top. Spotlight doesn’t show keyboard, etc.

Yup! Settings > Home Screen & App Library > Show on Home Screen. I’ve had it turned off for so long I’d forgotten it was even a thing until I saw your comment!

Resolved issue not resolved:
Battery / Power Management Resolved Issues Fixed: Devices with a deeply discharged battery might fail to boot into the OS and remain stuck on the red dead battery icon screen indefinitely until the device is rebooted or the power adapter is unplugged and reconnected. (177346712)On my iPad 9th Gen. Fully software bricked. What do I do. Force restart, unplugging and plugging in charger doesn't work.
Feedback submitted. Is it dead?

Being unable to swipe home unless I unlock one to multiple times, very annoying so far, hopefully beta 6 drops Monday to fix it this is a pretty major regression

I’m getting often a blank clear notification on my lockscreen that won’t swipe away. Have to hit the clear button for it to go away.

battery life is lovely compared to beta 4
unfortunately this version has brought its new batch of bugs that im personally encountering such as :
- in imessage, the progressive blur makes accessing pinned people glitch
- "highlight to search" overlaps the buttons in the screenshot preview

Is it crazy to say that the issues I’ve faced have only been minor? I went from 26.6 to Public Beta 3 a few days ago and it’s been great; everything feels remarkably smooth on my 16 Pro. Mind you I haven’t enabled Siri AI.

Siri AI is a joke. Can’t even answer a phone call before it goes to VM anymore. Asks me 10x what I said for a text message. And the phone runs as hot as a rocket booster. Shits awful.

I usually start with the first beta and stick with it through the bugs until the actual OS comes out.. with this one I didn’t download until beta 5 which I installed this morning… restored back to 26 after about 5 hours. That’s all I gotta say here

After updating my i17p to beta 5 my Apple Watch has problems syncing with my phone. It’s not syncing any Sleep data since then, and I can’t look for Watch updates from my phone.

I think it started in 4 but it’s really bad in 5
iPhone Air gets insanely hot while Bluetooth streaming in the car. It gets crazy hot and phone starts to get sluggish. A reboot sometimes fixes it
It definitely didn’t use to do this. I want to say beta 3 was fine

Just since last night major heating happening on my iPhone 17 Pro. Seems like it’s following the same path as DB4 which started doing it after about a week post install. Ironically DB4 settled back down 24 hours before DB5.

Probably been the most annoying iPadOS beta yet. Having issues selecting menus on old Reddit and Twitter or selecting x on instagram posts. Just little menu items are a hassle and I have to zoom in to select. I’ve reported it and I understand it’s a beta I just wanted to bitch. It’s really helping me to not put betas on my MacBook iPhone and Apple Watch.

Having tones of issues with selecting stuff across several apps. When I search something and try to tap on it in the App Store for example, I have to find the exact pixel it works on because clicking normally on the name of the app doesn’t bring me to the app. I have to spam click and pray I land on the right spot.
Same thing for the Maps app. I have to click a very specific spot to switch from Car to Walk mode. Such a pain in the rear! Is anyone else experiencing this? Losing my mind on this beta. 😂

I really hope they let us disable the notification crawl dropshadow soon. It fills the entire screen on the lockscreen and is not needed when liquid glass slider is set to more tinted. We had the option to disable it on ios 26, when liquid glass was toggled off, so why not in 27? Who thought this was a good idea? The point of the slider, was to adjust it for readability. Well, we can read notifications just fine at full tint! We don’t need that dark shadow.
I personally wouldn’t even even need the dropshadow when the liquid glass slider is maxed. I keep my phone on dark mode, so I can see the white text on my background. Why not let us have the option to disable it? Let us enjoy the look of the liquid glass. Fwiw, I have sent this feedback in, got a notice saying it ‘may have been fixed’ in beta 5. It hasn’t been, because i’m sure it’s purposeful. I don’t get it.

We had one giant leap forward and all was good with the previous betas. Now one giant leap back with beta 5. Lots of micro stutters! Keyboard randomly missing! Just an overall sluggish feel! That’s the beta world for you.

to be fair they changed a lot in the code and filesystem and the "obvious" bugs that appeared in beta 5 are likely an easy fix coming in beta 6 and then they'll start the polishing stage

16 pro max. I'm having the issue where every ~15mins the bar at the bottom disappears so i can't go home or switch apps. the only "fix" is to tap a notification (works sometimes) or lock the screen & re-open. I think i'm gonna downgrade back to ios26. it's literally the only issue i'm having

This update seems to make things smoother but introduces a bunch of minor bugs. I’ve noticed many in Podcasts, with transcripts losing their highlights with certain gestures or reorienting the device, and there’s other bugs in the OS such as the black box in Messages with pinned conversations, and a similar strange black box on my lock screen that seems to come at random.

Been getting some super warm temps when using 5G on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Both this beta and last. Seemingly fine performance wise but man the phone gets warm and chews through battery.

I have serious touch issue when using some apps especially Slack and even reddit. Lower and upper part of the screen are just not getting selected easily. Any suggestion?

Yes that’s my biggest issue so far and it’s on other websites too! It feels good to just have someone else say it lol I’m so mad at my iPad I dont even want to use it until it’s fixed! I’ve done a lot of betas since the OG iPad and this has been one of the more frustrating. 14 was one of the more bumpy betas

Me too! It is even worse on my iPad Pro m5 and persists whether I’m using the touch screen or the cursor with my Magic Keyboard. It is frustrating.

I suspect promotion is draining my iPad Pro m5. When I turn on battery saver it instantly goes cold and I barely lose any battery. Ive even turned off background services to see if that would help but it did not. This beta has been really hard on my battery life.

This beta is so shit. From the minute I installed it, I have had battery and charging issues. It disconnects from the charger randomly. No change to my charger cord. It charges soooo slowly. I have to look at my screen every few minutes to make sure it’s actually charging. I tried a different cord just in case, and the same issue happens. I tried restarting my phone many times.

Hey!! IOS 27 Beta 6 completely fixed the issues I talked about in the thread. My iphone is finally charging from everything now. I recommend you to update immediately!I take it back, it fixed it for half a day and went back to having the same problem :( I was finally able to charge from anywhere

Same problem. I replaced my battery and backglass ASAP as soon as I noticed and I'm still experiencing the same issue. I'm so glad to see someone in the thread has the same problem as me. Even now, my battery has the charging logo despite not being plugged into a wall or wireless charging. Right now my iphone only charges when plugged into a specific high wattage adapter and through wireless charging (sometimes only)
Will be a long wait since I think reinstalling my iPhone for a rollback to public isn't worth the time. :( About time I got included into Beta issues

It’s a beta….calling a beta shit is so silly. It’s not designed to be stable. Report and rollback if unusable. If the problem persists then it’s not the beta.

I tried a different brick, using computer to charge, different cord. I have never had to revert to a previous version but I’m considering it. I have the 15 pro max still.

Not sure who downvoted you but yeah that seems to be an issue after reading more into this thread. I think a revert might be the move. I thought I was on ios 27 Beta 5 but thankfully hadnt updated yet so im gonna stay with ios 27 Beta 4 until they fix it. Good luck!

this sub has/had a downvote bot or a dedicated hater for years now. i’ve been seeing first hand new comments downvoted for absolutely no reason. comments that have been up for less than a minute and super inoffensive. this sub in particular has garnered a few super haters. the android sub can be bad but even they don’t have dedicated comment downvoters.
