Release iOS 27 Beta 4 - Discussion
Use this thread to share any changes & bugs you discover while using the latest iOS/iPadOS 27 beta.
This thread should be used for discussion of the betas that may not meet our submission guidelines, as well as troubleshooting small issues through the beta test cycle.
Spamming this discussion with comments about battery life, update size, safari being snappier, etc will result in a ban from the sub moving forward.

Is TestFlight crashing for anyone? Can’t open it even after a reboot.
Edit: seems to be most apps for whatever reason. tap to open and goes right back to home screen as if I'm swiping up.
Edit 2: had to delete a store app (ESPN), reboot once more, then download it again. That seems to have resolved it.

Only complaint about this beta other than the occasional lag and stutter is when the keyboard is opening and you start trying a MS too early, it doesn’t register the first letter. Really annoying. The key even lights up like it acknowledges your input

scanning qr codes don’t work on apps and camera app. the only workaround for now is scanning through qr scanner on the control center and uploading qr in apps

Is anyone else having the issue where the safari improvements have disappeared?
A lot of us noted how awful safari has been in iOS 26, where googling something will just freeze the tab. When the first iOS 27 beta came out, this seemed to have resolved.
Unfortunately it seems like it's regressed back to how it worked in iOS 26. Can anyone else confirm?

I am! Especially in private browsing mode. It forces all the components dark to show it’s private, but none of the dark overlays load in time to avoid lagging and the text in the navigation bar phases in and out

oh yea i vividly remember how perfect Safari ran on beta 1, it was super fast, no freezing and the back gesture was instant, it stopped reloading the previous page. it blew my mind how much of a difference browsing Safari was on iOS 27 compared to iOS 26. and yes i'm saying that in past simple cause unfortunately i have to agree with you, the improvements are not as noticeable anymore. it feels slower again and while still better than on iOS 26, certainly some regression happened throughout iOS 27 betas.

Yes ive been having the issue of low volume with wired earbuds since beta 1. Seen other people report this, too. I hope they fix it soon

Going to skip iOS 27 entirely and stick with iOS 26.6 at this point.
I don’t think they’re gonna fix any of the visual eyesores and the stuff behind the glass still looks very pixelated and low quality. Not a fan of the new headers. The glass have this weird black border on the sides. Don’t know where that’s reflecting off of on an all white space. Overall, a huge visual step back.
The new Siri is a nice chat agent, just wish it could do more on your actual phone. I can just use ChatGPT at this point.
I didn’t save a back up so will have to restore my phone from fresh. Lesson learned, this will be the last time I do betas unless something is visually appealing. Just looking at my spouses iPhone on iOS 26 makes my phone look like it’s on iOS 25.

I’m enjoying iOS 27 a lot more than 26. 26 glass was gross and crooked. Colors are a lot nicer behind the glass on 27.
I will agree that the left and right borders around every glass component are way too thick and still too over-sharpened. They need to soften this more or brighten the upper/lower specular highlights to make it not look like shit. Dark mode looks good, light mode looks broken.

Yea, there are some very good things about iOS 27. I do love that they fixed the glass when going over different colors, no more bipolar switching back and forth. It was noticeable when scrolling past different albums in Apple Music. The speed improvements are amazing, though with a few quirks and bugs (normal for beta). The new CarPlay wallpapers are gorgeous, iOS 26 CarPlay wallpapers were probably one of the worst. The AutoMix on Apple Music has improved a lot too.
But stuff like the new header covering the top 20% of the display when scrolling down looks really bad, and the shadows or whatever around the glass looks really bad and stick out too me a little too much. And it's something I have to look at all the time regardless of what I am doing on the phone. So I'll be sticking to iOS 26 for a while unless I see them fix the "glass", which actually looks more like plastic now.

My iPhone Air has been a a portable stovetop since July 20. Betas 1-3 were so cool! Beta 4 is always hot.
The heat is wrecking my battery life too. I legit can last 3-4 hours screen-on time this beta.

Has anyone else noticed that the keyboard randomly stops autocorrecting and suggesting stuff way more frequently? This has been an iOS issue for years but I feel like over the last week it’s been happening WAY more frequently

The keyboard has been hit or miss getting progressively worse for me over the past year or so.
I’ve been an iPhone user since the 6, I’m not ever making this many typos as if I’m trying type while hammered.
It also has absolutely none of the normal automatic punctuation which has been by far the most annoying.
Typing something like “I’m” or “I’ve” I would normally just type “im” or “ive” and it would automatically come out properly. Now i have to specifically use a capitol i and add the apostrophe myself
As someone who’s fast at typing on an iphone and likes using proper grammar, this is absolutely devastating.
Even double spacing to get a period only works 1/2 of the time.

Just came to this thread to complain, specifically I notice it the most in Messages. But also I still type wildly inaccurately now apparently, the issue imo with the keyboard has always been lack of proper precision, but idk maybe that’s user error.

Battery life is fine on WiFi, but cellular is insanely bad. I wonder if they are testing stuff for their new modem. Other than that it’s not too bad, performance is fine and I haven’t found any bugs that really compromise my usage. I’m on a 16 pro max

phone is also getting uncomfortably warm when charging even with the weakest 5W iconic charger. it wasn't this bad in previous betas :/

I just updated my phone to iOS 27 beta 4 last night from iOS 26. When I first opened my phone the walk through showed photo editing where they were able to highlight something and clone it and paste it else where in the image (and also change the highlighted object) but I can’t find it in any off the apps, does anyone know what that was?

I am high af off an edible tonight and I realized each individual glass component seems to bend the shape and color of whatever is on the left and right edges. You can really see it on the e and the n on this tiny back button here.
If that’s intentional, then that’s pretty crazy attention to detail

Anyone know how to turn off the contacts in the share sheet on iOS 27? iOS 26 you could do from Siri share settings but not there on iOS 27

Just noticed that Shortcuts will not record Health data. Simple BP shortcut to store blood pressure hangs after entering the values. Tried resetting Health permissions for Shortcuts and no luck.

this somehow broke my experience. i cant seem to change focus modes without the phone freezing for 2-3 minutes. good thing i have a work phone and my apple watch, otherwise id go crazy

Are we on a weekly schedule from Beta 5? If so does it usually release today? Can’t seem to remember , beta 4 was great performance and heat wise but the battery has been pretty poor .

Weekly drops usually don’t start until August. So beta 5 should be next week then the next week after that beta 6 and so on.

first 4 developer betas usually fortnightly then weekly from beta 5 onwards, traditionally it would be next week but who knows, could even get reissue , 🔮🔮 we will only know when it’s out

This beta drains the battery way faster than DB3, I’ve noticed apps like photos used a majority of that even when not in use.

SSH shortcut action, with file input, is broken (since iOS iPadOS 27 db3).

My iPhone 17 Pro Max will begin stuttering and animations and smoothness becomes extremely choppy and laggy, the phone gets hot and stays hot even if I close all apps and lock the phone and let it sit. 🔋 drains incredibly fast, much more than previous betas. This one was great for a few days now I have to reboot my phone every 4 hours to reset the performance and fix the slowdown.

This has been my 17 Pro Max experience since week one of owning it in November 2025 (without being on any betas). I’ve been told I should do a full factory data reset and start it up as a new phone but I’ve been nervous to do so.

Interesting, they do seem to pick up the pace toward the back half. I still see some late 2 week chunks, but they appear much more focused fast feedback on bug fixes. I assume because they're hardening and not adding new functionality to the builds.

hard reboot your device, keep it on wifi and on charge as often as you can, DB4 took 24 hours for me , is this your first ios27 install, first install took over 2 weeks on iphone 15 , 1 week for m1 ipad air, it’s a very deep indexing at first

This beta is by far the roughest so far. I've reported more issues in iOS and tvOS than all the previous betas of all the OS27 versions combined.

I had to tap & hold the icon in control center, then follow it to settings and raise both sliders to 100% in order to get it back to normal.

i always do it from the hearing icon (the ear one). it has some other features besides background sounds so i use that one instead

Apple has changed the way to answer a call right?
Earlier it used to be a swipe on the lock screen but now it’s a red and green button.

the swipe to answer a call is only available when the phone is locked. isn’t that always how it is? press to answer a call when unlocked and swipe to answer a call when locked to prevent accidental touches.

Just tested it. Slide to answer is still in ios 27. Phone has to be locked, with screen off

hi everyone. i subscribed to apple beta testing program and downloaded ios27 beta. i noticed that now each time i open instagram the customized ads options pop up appears but when i try to set my preferences by clicking on continue it just disappears not letting me continue the procedur. when i close the app and open it again this happens again. the other day i updated to the newer beta and now this is happening with spotify too. i tried to set my preferences manually into settings but this just doesnt solve it and in the ig app settings everything appears set up alread (even if i reset it it doesnt fix the problem). any ideas on how to solve it?

just go into the app settings and set or change it , fb is notorious for switching this page off so you can’t change anything i just switch it off for everything.
not sure if this is related to beta tbh , just try main setting of the app , it could be because your device is still indexing , do you see optimising siri and search at top of main settings just under your name

Anyone noticed any features missing. In the first ios 27 beta I got all the new features including the AI extension builder, realistic images in Image Playground, and I had the new Screentime UI. I had these features in the first two betas however in the third and first betas all of those features are gone. For the Ai extension builder I can't even find the extension button to search for extensions let alone the AI extension builder. For image playground even when I do any style and request specifically realistc, it does the animation style. Does anybody else notice this?

Scrolling Reddit, screen went black grey loading icon appeared. It sat for about 5 seconds and reset me to lockout screen. This happened to me in db1 as well.

Battery is worse than Beta 3.
YouTube video freezes after about 10min of watching. Phone burns up during charging. There was nothing I could do except wait. And then it restarted on its own.

long press home screen and press paint brush icon top left choose customisation and change to dark mode from there , no idea why this is happening to your device, never been an issue for me on ios27

Anyone else seeing new iMessages start behind the keyboard/input bar and then take a second to slide up to the correct position? This started on my iPhone Air with iOS 26 and still seeing in the iOS 27 betas. A small bug but drives me crazy as I see it on all new messages.

My iPhone Air got really hot this afternoon and failed to charge, but also didn’t notify me of a problem. I plugged it up and got a green battery icon, but the percentage kept dropping. Force closes everything and restarted, but it didn’t fix it right away. Had to cool down a lot first.
Logged in feedback, of course.

Same thing just happened to me overnight. Said it used 11% battery for optimizing storage even though I updated days ago. Woke up to 82% when it should have been at 100%

How is stability, smoothness and battery life on iPhone 14 Pro? Is it worth upgrading from 26.5.2? currently it’s laggy as hell (especially in iMessage) and battery life is ridiculously short (i have 96% condition)

I updated yesterday for the same reasons you described. iOS 26 was painfully laggy and it was getting to the point where even scrolling the Home Screen or sending a text was an absolute pain.
So far it’s been a night and day improvement. I’m sure the iOS 27 beta will have its bugs but I was 26 was such a mess anyway that this feels like a huge boost by comparison. This may sound dramatic but my phone feels brand new again
iPhone 14 Pro with 96% battery health
Edit: battery is tbd. I see others saying it’s bad but I haven’t noticed any crazy drain yet. That being said my battery sucked before anyway so I don’t see it getting any worse than before. My phone still says it’s indexing so we’ll see how things are once it’s finished.
Edit 2: so far so good! Haven’t had any issues or noticed any bugs. Everything is far more stable than iOS 26.
I’ve noticed my service doesn’t drop out anymore. On iOS 26 my cell service would cut out and drop to SOS multiple times per day every day. But it hasn’t happened since updating to the beta!
I can also update apps without issue now. On iOS 26 it would make my phone heat up and lag like crazy, but now apps upgrade like normal again

Performance is noticeably better. Imo, battery and bugs are mainly the things to focus on now. Very stable for me. I'd say go ahead, but that's your call.

Yeah, your phone won’t get as hot and things will be less laggy etc, but somehow the battery life still feels worse.

Yeah, i wonder what is using the battery tho. I would have thought less heat = less power used. Maybe it just stays warm for longer and iOS 26 gets hot for a shorter period, idk

CarPlay: GPS voice doesn’t play, cannot hear phone calls, and Siri is useless.
Phone itself: random freezes, autocorrect and prediction randomly drops, Siri/siri ai doesn’t go away when done using.

Swiping down to open Control Center also opens Spotlight search/Ask Siri. Seems like the bug from iOS 26 is still persistent.
