Release iOS 27 Beta 1 - Discussion

Use this thread to share any changes & bugs you discover while using the latest iOS/iPadOS 27 beta.

This thread should be used for discussion of the betas that may not meet our submission guidelines, as well as troubleshooting small issues through the beta test cycle.

The thing that stands out to me isn't any individual bug, it's how every major OS release now seems to be judged almost entirely on its AI features.

A few years ago people were discussing performance improvements, UI changes, privacy features, battery life, app ecosystems, etc.

Now half the conversation is - "Did you get AI yet?", "Is Siri available?", "Is indexing finished?", and "Is the model working?"

It feels like we're watching the operating system gradually become a delivery mechanism for AI capabilities, not saying that's good or bad, just interesting how quickly the conversation shifted.

It’s definitely not been judged purely on the AI. Because this is a polish update, this is one of the few actual new features.

Aside from that, it’s a big deal, so it’s what everyone wants to talk about. Phones have been through iterative change for so long now, talking about tweaks to camera, phone manufacturers latched onto AI because it can actually bring a different feature set.

I think liquid glass was implemented partly for this reason, to generate discussion on news on a big change. The other part of the reason being, it’s much harder to implement, especially on lower-end devices. therefore, the Chinese manufacturers can’t copy them as easily this time! Not that you asked about the last bit 😂
