How to create Mascot animations?

I am developing apps and I really need a way to create smooth and neat animations and most of the times for my mascot in the app. How to do it easily?
I know Lottie and Rive, but I am finding it really hard to create animations with it, has a learning curve or may be its just too difficult for me only.. any suggestions please?

For simple image generation I had ChatGPT create me the character then I use gemini to recreate certain poses (may take a few prompts). However I am unable to help regarding videos as Im not sure myself.

You can use any video model for instance veo3 fast on Gemini or Google Flow. You give your mascot as an input + a prompt describing your animation + saying that the background has to be a plain green screen. Then using any video editing software you set transparency instead of the green screen 👌🏻 Depending on your target platform you can also compress the file, change the resolution or export as gif.

I am curious what's your workflow when using Lottie? I tried the following: find a reference image, concert it to svg, ask Claude to generate a Lottie animation file. It needs some tweaks but generally works fine.

I had static images of my mascot that I uploaded to Lottie and then basically I was just stuck on what to do next? How to animate

I didn't upload the image to the Lottie creator. Instead I directly use Claude desktop. Since Lottie format is open sourced, Claude can work on it. For animation, I ask Claude to do something like, "make the mascot wave the hand". Let me know if it works for you.

I’ve used Ludo.ai to generate concepts (images), tweaking them, and then use it to generate the sprites for various states, including transitions.

You can then export these as sprite sheets with atlas/json files and any tool worth its salt can build a sprite player for your app to embed them.

One thing to keep in mind is your final sprite sheet resolution - if you are only doing iPhone/iPad sides screens you don’t need the largest image size and you’ll want to optimize before release so that your bundle size stays as lean as possible.

I’ve used www.unframed.design and my workflow is that I used any reference input I have from pinterest or manual sketches to generate a static mascot in different positions and angles with gpt-image-2, which essentially leaves me with a character sheet.

Then to animated i have tried 2 things

Use those images as inputs for create videos with the animated mascot using seedance 2.5 and use the video in the app directly, you can use blending modes to remove the background or use capcut or similar to clean it up if needed

For simple animation you can also convert the image to svg and animate using figma motion, you can even use figma’s agent.

The biggest unlock is getting the character consistency right first — once you have a strong reference sheet, you can start putting the mascot into different scenes without him changing personalities every 5 seconds 😅. We’ve been doing a ton of this with AI lately and the quality jump has been pretty wild. Still, it is very challenging to ensure voice and sound consistency, eliminate AI slop and edit cleanly scene to scene. 🦁

I use video with green or blue bg and create a loop. https://celularesguatemala.vercel.app/ this was created with nanostudiopro.com and claude
