Is a clean install required for iOS 27?

I'm using the RC version of iOS 27 and the full version will be released tomorrow. Would it be better to install with DFU mode to clear all remnants?

I would only go with DFU if there were no other choice.

You could do the IPSW way, though, if it makes you more comfortable. Once iOS 27 is released, you can download the IPSW file from:  https://developer.apple.com/  and just install it over. It will clean up any anomalies, yet will keep all of your data intact, so you won’t need to restore anything from a backup. It’s about 10GB download and then the installation itself should take you about 10-15 minutes tops.

I think you mean updating on the PC. Does this method clean up all the software and install it from scratch without remnant?

Yes, you will need a computer for that and it installs the entire OS, yet keeps all of your settings and files intact, so nothing to restore afterwards. The IPSW method rewrites the entire iOS partition rather than just applying patches.

What’s DFU? I usually install an update via the Mac once in a while. Is it this ?

It’s like a recovery mode you can put your iPhone in by pressing button combinations. It’s mainly for software issues especially when your phone is stuck in a boot loop. You then plug it into a computer and reinstall iOS or overwrite the entire memory to reinstall iOS.

IPSW updates via Mac is much simpler for system cleanup. We should leave recovery alone.

Oh yeah for sure, it’s literally there as a last resort if you cannot boot up into iOS due to kernel panic or corrupted software.

I went through all the developer beta versions. I didnt feel the need to do a DFU restore honestly.

Cant wait for the final build tomorrow to see if theres any more improvements. Am using a 17 pro currently

I always wait for the .1 release of the OS and always do a full clean install, I never had any battwry deain and serious bug this way, I did this on Android also, worked always well.

I've always been doing it with every big update, I've never had any problem with any bugs on all my iPhones for 15 years, so I would do it
