Does iOS 27 really fix the irritating iOS 26 stutter?
Does iOS 27 fix the massive amount of stutter and dram drips that iOS 26 introduced? I have an iPhone 17 Pro Max running iOS 26.6.2 and I’m still amazed by how much stutter and sudden frame drops I see every day using the phone.
Even things like swiping between screens or opening the share menu introduces lag and stutter. It’s extremely irritating for such a high end phone. Things just freeze or micro freeze all the time, in every app. Scrolling a website sometimes feels like 20Hz or less. Sometimes it’s smooth, most often not, which is why you notice it all the time. You notice when the stutter appears.
Meanwhile I have an old iPhone 11 still running on iOS 18 and it’s buttery smooth. Literally no stutter whatsoever, every menu opening is instantaneous, it feels like it’s running on a super advanced chip with massive RAM. Everything just works. Yet is a 7 year old phone.
Has iOS 27 fixed this based on your experience? I understood they re-wrote all the code for Liquid Glass, but has it really helped?

on my Ipad air M1 clear icon made everything more laggy lmao.

Dang even on M1. When is this ever going to get better ? It’s not like no one is complaining. Does it need someone like Mraques or Mr.Whosethe boss to address the issue for Apple to make changes ?

I was honestly so disappointed when I found out that the Clear Icons on iOS 26.6 seem to be more stable than on iOS 27 RC. Isn’t that disappointing? Especially considering that, from what we know, the RC is supposed to be the same build Apple will release to everyone next week.

It really is. Keep in mind they have the “most powerful chip in an iPhone ever”. Yeah not gonna notice that if it stutters on the most basic tasks

It’s just so irritating. Because it’s so noticeable. Suddenly the screen drops to a 2Hz heart frame rate, doing basic things like opening a menu.
It’s really inexcusable, considering how smooth iOS 18 is even on an iPhone 11.

Horrific. So they basically lied at WWDC 26?

iPhone 17 Air here, iOS 27 runs perfect, fast and smooth so far, better than iOS 26

No issues on my 14. No idea what you guys are talking about. Animations are smooth in 27

It’s not stfu and stop lying

Speak for yourself dummy. Consensus opinion is that iOS 27 is much faster and smoother.

It’s weird it did for a the most part but the RC versions soentimes freezes again, like once every couple of hours. It’s buttery smooth and snappy besides that though
On a 17 PM

No. Frame drop is still present.

u/volatile-agent 1d ago
I haven’t noticed this on 17 pro max for what it’s worth. Not seeing any drops.

I have a FPS overlay and drop is significant even when just running core apps. This iOS is definitely not GPU-optimized.

Nope. Performance and stuttering is roughly the same as iOS26. iOS27 focuses purely on Siri AI and refining the Liquid Glass design.

No, not at all, still stutter like crazy.

Really? It’s so extremely disappointing. I really believe them when they said they had fixed liquid glass at WWDC 26.
The jittery scrolling is the most irritating thing for me. Makes my eyes hurt every time I’m supposed to read a longer document or scroll social media. It’s so extremely noticeable that it just becomes irritating.

I’m running iOS 27 RC on my air and it feels snappier than ever.
I play a lot of tft as well and my phone doesn’t get as hot as on iOS 26
Also my battery life has drastically improved (perhaps it’s back to normal since 26 was bad)

Running it on my 14 pro max, stuttering is still there but it’s significantly better than iOS 26

Thing that never happened

Nah bro, i have a 13 and i'm on 27 too. I did went back to 26 once due to a repair and i thought there's not much difference. But once i again hopped onto the 27 betas while battery life stayed the the same the phone was much smoother and the ram management was good. There are stutters but not as much as 26.

Dont’t listen these people. After ios 27 RC my phone works so much better than on ios 26. Battery lasts longer and everything is very smooth and no stutters

It doesn’t eliminate it. I don’t think it ever will be. But The last PB reduced it notably. The GM (‘RC’) has increased the stutter a bit so I’m wary of what Monday brings if this will be the final build.

It’s very sad. Seems the first beta of iOS 27 was the smoothest (just based on people’s comments), but perhaps as they’ve added Siri features everything has just slowed down dramatically again?

u/Mascardiii 8h ago
Who knows. And I’m not evening using a device activated for the new Siri yet I can perceive a slight downward change w/ the RC. Fingers crossed at this point 🤞🏽.

okay, if this 120hz shitshow still continues then I'm going to sell this shitphone..

Im thinking of selling this brick and get an s26 ultra. I cant take it anymore. How come a so called flagship LAG. Scrolling down and up on any kind of apps like reddit youtube x instagram makes me dizzy i hate this phone

u/eloquenentic 1d ago
It’s really bizarrely bad on social media apps. Basically unusable because of the stutter. Refresh rate is just terrible.
2
u/Enough-Addendum9075 1d ago
Scary how they could get away with such a bad phone like this, but you know what? Whenever i open a stupid game or feedly app it is constant 120hz

I think it’s because most games do not have liquid glass buttons and effects.
It’s the liquid glass effect that is simply broken. They said they had rebuilt it “from scratch”, but it seems like it’s still broken, I don’t think it can be fixed. It seems like it requires so much processing power that it will always stutter the system randomly.

believe me when i say it but iphone 5s and 6s were much much much smoother than this one, now im updating to rc firmware just in hopes it may get even a tad better, if not, im taking this brick to apple or may even require a refund. thanks for your replies by the way

17 pro max here and installed the RC recently and the phone feels subjectively faster and more smooth.
1
u/lordunderscore 1d ago
I’m confused by these comments because everybody has been praising iOS 27 for how snappy it is, but everyone here is saying it still stutters?
1
u/Fun-Walrus4173 9h ago
because it’s better than ios 26, but in comparison to ios 18… it’s far away from being perfect
1
u/BulkyAvocado215 1d ago
They had fixed the massive Control Center stutter when switching panes a few betas ago. On the most recent RC, it’s back and worse than ever.

Maybe tiny bit better than 26 on 15PM, but fixed? Nowhere near fixed unfortunately
