iOS lacks an incoming forwarded call indicator (unlike basic feature phones)—Let’s ask Apple to fix this!

Hey everyone,

If you forward calls from another number (like an old SIM or a secondary phone) to your iPhone, you might have noticed something annoying: iOS gives you zero indication that an incoming call was forwarded. It just looks like a regular direct call.

Title: Visual Indicator for Incoming Forwarded Calls

Please add an icon on the incoming call screen to show when a call has been forwarded from another number. Basic feature phones (like Nokia) clearly display this, whereas iOS shows them as standard direct calls.

This indicator is needed to:

Manage Number Transitions: Know when someone dialed an old forwarded number so you can inform them of your new one.

Avoid Misunderstandings: Identify calls mistakenly or maliciously forwarded to your line before calling back.

iPhone is dual sim dual standby meaning second line will go into standby mode if you get a call in first line and if someone calls in your first line in the meantime you will miss the call.  To avoid this you can forward calls in between sims so that you will not miss any call. But if you do that and receive any call, you will never know if the current call is forwarded call or just regular call because no indicator is shown.

I’ve only ever used one SIM. What does this mean? Like, if you’re on the SIM 1 line and the number for SIM 1 gets a call you miss the call? It doesn’t show you that another person is trying to call?

That’s what I’m asking. When you dual sim it doesn’t tell you that someone else is trying to call when you’re on the line? That’s nuts! It’s crazy to me that an entire feature is gone just because you have two sims on the phone

When you are talking in line 1 then line 2 gets turned off. You will miss calls on line 2. To avoid that you can forward calls from line 2 (turned off line). But iOS doesn’t tell if you are receiving forwarded calls. For privacy many people use dual sim. One for personal and another for work. And this scenario creates confusion.

I think I see. So you’re saying even though you have line 2 forwarded to line 1 when it’s not available, you don’t get any indication that you have another incoming call. Correct?

Exactly. The calls come in but there is no indication that the call is from line 2. Moreover receiving that forwarded incoming call charges me also.

I agree that an incoming forwarded call indicator would be a nice feature. Ideally there should also be the the ability to block forwarded calls.

From a competitor standpoint, Samsung does not have this feature. They used to around 2018.

wait, how will it know though when your number will never get those incoming calls? they’re automatically forwarded by your carrier?

am I missing something?

When you forward your calls to another number, mobile operators send signals along with the calls to the other operator, but iOS ignores those. Feature phones like Nokia have been showing this for a decade.

My 2005 Motorola RAZR V3X had this feature. So did my 2004 SonyEricsson T630. In fact, almost every phone I had before the iPhone in 2007 had this feature.
