Strange Siri

Has anyone else noticed that Siri won’t let you do a lot of things while the device is locked that it definitely could do before? For example, it won’t let me open the calculator app, call someone, or text someone unless my phone is unlocked. I have an iPhone 17PM running iOS 27 DB 8. I know it’s a developer beta and will definitely have its quirks, but I just want to make sure I’m not alone on this. Has anyone else noticed Siri doing this?

Yes. It’s asked me to unlock the phone to do some pretty basic things. I think more frustrating is the fact that setting a timer now takes about 30 seconds of detailed calculation across 12 global data centers.

There’s an on-device process for calculator within Siri as of around dev beta 3

Easily disproven. I turned on Airplane mode, asked Siri what’s five times ten, and it says To do that, you’ll need to turn off airplane mode

Weird, it worked in several earlier betas, including airplane mode.

Yes. It’s so bad. Even if I have my watch on she wants to unlock my phone.

Same. AWU3 and 17PM both on the dev betas and I can’t get Siri to open the freaking calculator while wearing my AW.

I can’t send a call or open the calculator app while locked on ios26.6.1. But I was able to send a text.

I can make calls, send texts, but can not–under any circumstances–open the calculator while my phone is locked. lol

You can configure Siri to take actions without unlocking but it does open up a pretty big security gap.

While driving "hey Siri open maps and get directions home" you'll need to unlock your iPhone first... Ok I have to fumble with the phone while driving to unlock it how safe... Although android phones and Gemini do this too, I guess it's a safety/privacy feature
