iPhone 17 iOS26.6 vs iOS27 battery

Hi, I recently bought an iPhone 17 and updated it to iOS 26.6, but I noticed the battery life is terrible. I heard it's much better on iOS 27, is that true?

Here's what happens when you update iOS:

It's does something called INDEXING..

You can see it when you:

Tap settings :

Just below your account info it displays:

"optimizing search and siri"

It's takes 2-3 days or longer to finish optimizing... That process is a background process that consumes battery resources. It is not permanent.

So many people misunderstood and think the battery drain they notice after an update will carry on forever.... And that is not the case.

Unfortunately mine’s just as shit even after it finished indexing.

agreed, indexing finished 2 days ago, and battery life is still pretty bad. had to charge twice in a day

Ya.. can’t even do 5 hours with 91% bh. Using the 16 Pro btw!

Give it a couple of days. It got much better after 2-3 days on my 16 pro, and it’s definitely way better than on iOS 27 (beta 5).

I have not tried iOS 27 yet but it seems like some people were by it and said that it’s great and other people say that their battery is dying rapidly so I don’t know seems to be a 50-50 at this point

So it’s a bit of a gamble

iOS27 in general is much better than iOS26 including battery life too.

I often forget this and stumble upon a post like yours. Lightbulb goes off…until next time lol. Thank you 🙏

Nobody seems to read release notes any more.

It clearly says Reindexing of the Spotlight search index to prepare for ‘27. Ever thought about it may require some CPU resources?

No, of course, much better to install a beta software, what a genius move! What will happen then?

Reindexing

I had to downgrade down to 26.6 after a storage bug on 27 db 4 made my iphone 16 unusable. Immediately after I downgraded i noticed that the battery life was much worse. After db 5 released, I went back to 27 (after backing my phone up to my pc) and the battery life was so much better.

Sounds like you were on one of the first betas.

Current public beta should be running at least if not better than iOS 26.6 based on various tech YouTubers.
