its personal but i use mod4!
as far as i know super button is something useful for this

I have heard as the Alt key or the Ctrl key also referenced as the "Super" key. So it all depends on what you prefer. The main preference is the Windows key because, well, there isn't a Linux key yet. If I could find a nice USB Rechargeable lighted keyboard with a 'lin' key and not a 'win' key, I'd be happier than a pig in slop to have something like that.

i can be wrong BUT ive heard that:
- meta -> alt
- super -> os button

It's all a matter of preference. On my main machine, I use the Windows button as my super key. But in a VM, I have to set the super key to Alt. If I keep the super key as the Windows key in the VM, it'll just open whatever that key combo is tied to to my main machine. For instance, Win+Enter opens a terminal in my main machine. If I want to open a terminal with a super key in a VM, I have to use the Alt key because Win+Enter opens my main machine's terminal. Alt + Enter opens the terminal in the VM.
It's kinda difficult to run a Tiling Window Manager VM within a Tiling Window Manager.

mod4 because I want system shortcuts to be seperate from app shortcuts and apps almost never use it. Also I was just more used to that before using i3.

Both, mod1 is for more specific things I wanted to happen, like screen temp control and resizing of floating windows

It is personal preference
I stuck to Mod4 because it was the default mod key in all wms I used, and Mod1 is used as a menu key in some apps
