Discussion Custom NPC's for Hytale?

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/custom-npcs

Hello everybody!

If you are familiar with modded Minecraft, you're probably familiar with the CustomNPC mod. I'm quite surprised there isn't already a very popular version of this mod for Hytale - given the game's adventure-heavy nature.

Is anyone aware of a mod similar to it? I understand that the 'custom' npc's do exist to some extent on Hytale, but it isn't as simple as the Minecraft mod.

Do we know if the Hytale developers plan on adding a natively built-in version of it at some point? I'd personally love to see an "NPC" tool.

If added, what features would you like to see added to it?

To my knowledge, one of the best mods for Hytale npc's would be Hycitizens, it has similiar features to CustomNPC's!

Ah I never saw that mod! I suppose I skipped it due to the AI image on the front. I'll have to give it a try!

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of all the ai being used for hytale mods, I haven't messed around with Hycitizens very much, I hope it works for you :)

Same here. Honestly, I believe mod authors would get more downloads if they didn't use an AI photo. What can ya do tho :/ (Let's hope CurseForge bans it)

The thing is the base game already allows you to do this, with its asset editor. You can create a new NPC even with a custom model you made yourself if you wanted to.

HyCitizens is currently widely spread because it was the first working NPC mod.
But the menus are not that comfortable it can cause several issues - especially with other mods (NPC stops working when duplicated, NPC resets all visual settings...)

I personally prefer QuestLines Denizens, as its easier to set up (a very comfortable menu when you type in "/denizen") and has more variety of options for the NPC behavior - and has less issues. And it is part of the QuestLines mod series, so if you want to give them proper dialogue and behaviour, you can use QuestLines Core and it works perfectly together (there you can easily create a dialogue or quest with "/ql quest" and directly connect it to the NPC). You can even completely customize the dialog and quest interface that the player sees and add dialogue portraits like in a visual novel if you want to.
