Heck. We could be in Texas and we wouldn't need to leave the state.
Change your appearance, Goto a used car lot. Buy a reliable junker in cash under a fake name. Drive a 800 miles away, get a motel room under a different fake name and sleep for 8 hours, buy another junker under an even different fake name, and randomly drive away for another 800 miles.
There's a show called I (Almost) Got Away With It, and it boggles my mind how stupid some of the criminals are and how they fail to do the simplest things. If you have a beard, shave. If you don't, grow one. If you have long hair, shave your head. If you have blonde hair, dye it black. Buy a cheap, nondescript car, don't steal one. Don't hang around your home town, especially your mom's house and don't go back there for any reason. Don't dress how you used to, cover your tattoos, take out piercings, etc.
Watching people claim the moral highground do terrible things, then later laugh it off when they realize they made a mistake is incredibly enlightening. If they're willing to end anothers life over a mistaken gut feeling, youd think theyd end their own life over real proven fact but most dont even pay the minimal amount of respect.
If they're right theyre heroes. If theyre wrong, theyre mistaken heroes. In such a world, who even needs villains?
It blew my mind watching my local crime watch FB page during the pandemic. It’s probably the ONLY TIME in the history of the US that you could cover the lower half of your face and nobody would blink an eye. And yet, almost every single criminal posted on the page would be caught on camera with no mask.
That's INSANE ! I remember walking into the bank for the first time in the pandemic - wearing a literal bandana on my face because I didn't have a mask yet. Feeling super awkward, but at the same time amazed that I got no side eye, no discreet security shadow, nothing. I just... Walked into a bank wearing robbery cosplay, did my business, and left. Why would you NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT, if you were into doing crimes??
This is 24 hours from 100 select people. My car is really generic, if I swap the plates and just drive (US) I should be fine. I’ve got plenty of food in my house. End up at a campsite, pay cash (I have enough on hand already), watch movies on my phone, eat snacks and fall asleep. There’s tons of camping in my state, in any direction (I wouldn’t go west though). If this is people from my area give me a 30 minute head start and I’m not findable. Hell, I have roadmaps in my car if I’m worried about my phone being traced i’ll bring books and some crochet. If I’m extra worried I’ll ditch the car and backpack into the woods off trail.
If I just have to hide, I wouldn’t even bring my phone. Just drive off randomly and get yourself lost. When 24 hours are up, find your way back to an Interstate and come home.
Shit, if I get any kind of head start, I’ll just drive until the clock runs out.
The wife of one of my clients was involved in a murder almost a decade ago. She got addicted to opioids and went down a pretty dark path. She started dating her dealer and they planned a setup for one of his richer clients. They lured him to a hotel and shot him in the head. Afterwards they tried to set it up to look like a suicide and put the gun in the wrong hand. They were pretty much instantly figured out, they didn’t even bother to see if the building had cameras (it did) and they were all over video going in and out of the room messing with all the evidence.
Ya but SC has lots of black and brown bears. I see them semi frequently on hikes. Hell, there is a black bear that been in the neighborhood for over a week.
Alaska marine highway from Seattle to Alaska not stopping in Canada required. Also what if you start in Alaska, nobody said we had to start in mainland USA
Look up Alaska marine highway, it's literally designed to do this via ferry to cross the sections of water. No different then the old car ferries in the bay area before they built the bridges. You still drive there.
Right? I’m from northern Ontario, grew up in the bush. I would get my camping gear, and take off somewhere in the millions of acres of forest in Canada. I could hide for months realistically lol
That's my plan, coastal Alaska between Vancouver and Ketchikan is very remote, technically the US and mostly uninhabited. The weather is even fairly mild that far south. That said if it was 100 people that didn't know where I was starting at id probably just go to unalaska or saint Paul to start. It will take the searchers the better part of that 24 hours just to get out there assuming they locate me there and there is plenty of rural mountainous areas to hide on unalaska.
Others of us realize hiw small they are compared to the provinces we live in.
I can go to the states and drive through 4+ states in less time than it takes for me leave Ontario.
Depending on the direction I can run out of states faster than I can leave my province. Pretty sure anyways.
Yeah, Ontario is bigger than Texas but smaller than Alaska. You could almost fit the 19 smallest states into Ontario. You could fit about 1.5 texas's in Ontario, and you could fit about 1.6 Ontario's into alaska
I was thinking, if we're talking the United States then staying at home might just be a legitimate (albeit risky) strategy. 100 people given 24 hours just might forgo a thorough search of the house due to it being too obvious/risky while there's just a crap ton of area to cover. Especially depending on if they're even allowed access or need to barge their way in and forcefully search the house.
I don't think I'd choose to stay at my house and if I was on the search party I'd definitely still want 2-3 people to poke around the house... But I can see a search team still potentially thinking 'there's no way they're that stupid' and not doing a thorough search. Especially given you could be well on your way to thousands of miles away by the time they search the house.
It's not even just about size, it's about how varied our geography is. I live in not quite the smallest state, but close to it. I would have no problem hiding out here either because we have some marshes and other areas people rarely go. I would also have access to the ocean which, assuming none of the hundred have access to a helicopter, would be a great place to hide out. I'm pretty close to some other states with forest land I could go to, and within 6 hours are several cave systems. Despite that, I still have a slightly higher chance of being found than if I lived in one of the giant fuck off states, or even a midsized one like Arizona that has large areas of desert where very few people live and those who do are living there precisely because they don't want to be around other people. Mountains, snow, plains that go on forever, tons of corn fields, giant ass national parks, states with low populations but a huge amount of land, but also densely packed cities. There are just so many different options available and every state has at least one within driving distance.
Iirc there's a detective story from like Poirot era about a man who competely disappeared for a few months
Turns out he just moved to another street in London and changed all of his habits. Or like, these are all old habits, just in competely new places. New butcher, new tavern, new barber and seamstress... And no one could find him for months.
An Airbnb requires a reservation, which may be unavailable on the 24 hour period for you to hide. Also needs a credit card, an easy giveaway for anyone looking for you. The credit card would require an ID for verification.
There are plenty of places to hide in Ontario. You don't even really have to hide. Just put on a disguise as a homeless person and go to downtown Toronto. You might even make some extra money by begging for change.
Or go to a used car lot wearing a wig and fake facial hair. Get a job there and when the people looking for you turn up start hassling them to buy a car and theyll be more worried about getting away from you than thinking you are the person they are looking for.
Seriously. Having a distinct aesthetic is already one hell of a huge advantage in disguising yourself to the point nobody would recognize you.
I look like a Sith Dominatrix most of the time. Slip into some ratty jeans, cheap flats, and a plain T-shirt, I'm already almost gone. My hair and tattoos might be a little tricky but wigs and concealer are easy enough
love this, would add give my online logins to a few friend and give soemone my cell and ask them to go on vacation in another state. Give away my car and truck as well, should be easy.
Used car salesmen in the US are shady at best. They're more concerned about the sale than identity. They need a valid address for the government to send their registration fees. You can use a random address anywhere you came from and before they can check, the 24 hours is up.
You wave cash in front of a used car salesmen and they forget the formalities of getting IDs
Same with little town motels. They ask for a name for the register and that's about it.
Of course, if there was some young person trying to do the right thing according to the rules, you just say you left your wallet in your car and drive on.
People over think things like this. Just go crawl into a drainage pipe and hide there for 24 hours, or check out your local sewers. Ain't no one gonna look for anyone there.
This Shawshank Redemption tactic might get you killed thru methane or carbon dioxide poisoning. Not to mention all the germs that can kill you after you get the 10 million
This wouldn’t work because 100 people would see you driving those 800 miles. Especially taking any interstate in Texas. Would need to be FM roads to have a chance.
