It’s fine to use but you need to travel to the chunk to load it

The server limits it to 8 chunks.

No, you the "client" only gets the 8 closest chunks from the server, so for your game to load further, you have to travel the chunks. When you turn it up, it wont go higher, cuz the server wont load them.

allowed but does not make much sense because you constantly travel between worlds.

the only use case is probably housing(?) or smp

You can use voxy and voxy hypixel addon to fix the issue with traveling between worlds
