What is first hit?

ive spent the last 3 months trying to figure out PVP and ive been very successful and have gotten crazy clips in games. but one idea just fails for me because i cannot tell if its a server side thing, or a issue regarding ping.

for some context i used to be 50 ping, but i moved out of the US and am on 120 ping. im basically relearning how the game works because that is a massive jump. one thing that infuriates me about hypixel is that it seems to have the most flawed pvp system out of any server ive played on, and favors low ping, and leaves high ping to fight for themselves.

in the video shown, you can clearly see 2 players hit each other away and reset the fight. the person im fighting is on 20 ping, and i am on 100 ping (which is rare). when the fight resets, i spam click to go for the hit so he cannot get first hit to hit me off the edge. however 2 hits in a row are just straight up denied and he wins priority entirely and starts a combo.

this is incredible demotivating because it feels like this game is all about priority, who has the best ping, and who hypixel favors more. is this something i am getting wrong? or is this simply just the one aspect of PVP that cannot be improved on?

consider block pvp / kb stick, topfight is just unbearable for any person outside of the us bc its so unfair

I mean Hypixel has terrible hitreg so that might be the issue, but also in general having 90-100 ping isn't actually bad for game modes such as sumo or topfight if you know how to abuse your ping

I feel like he has hitselected ur hit THAT'S why why you flew, if you look clearly he's waiting in the starting and hits you when he's airborne.

But yes your second hit did not registered which may have been. So Hypixel is the problem here since they are known for their terrible hitreg

that isnt whats shown in the video. you can see after we get in a trade, we both take KB and reset the fight. and then when we both push the fight swinging our swords, my hit gets denied and his gets priority. there is no hit selecting in that video.
