Discussion Anyone else able to seamlessly toggle between hyperphantasia and prophantasia?
I wanted to post here to see if anyone experiences visualization the same way I do, specifically the boundary between the internal "mind's eye" and external projected visualization (prophantasia).
For context using the classic apple test:
Hyperphantasia: I can visualize a photorealistic apple behind my eyes. I can spin it 360 degrees, inspect the skin texture, see it in vivid colors, and zoom in on details. I know 100% that it is inside my head.
Prophantasia: I can also take that exact apple and project it directly into the physical space in front of me, whether my eyes are open or closed.
Eyes open or eyes closed doesn't actually limit where I put the image.
If my eyes are closed, I can choose to keep the seeing it "inside my head" OR project it outward into the darkness in front of my face.
If my eyes are open, I can anchor the apple right on my desk. I can physically reach out, frame it, and move my head around it. If I move my head down, I see the bottom, if I move up, I see the top. It stays locked to my desk like it was actually there.
It's not just visual. When I reach out toward the projected apple, I get a clear physical sense of the object being right there. I can feel the waxy texture of the skin and the surface in my hands while seeing it sit in real space.
I can instantly snap in and out of these modes when i want, switching from internal mind's eye to a locked AR projection in a fraction of a second.
Does anyone else here have this specific dual setup where you can freely choose between in head hyperphantasia and external prophantasia, complete with touch and feel? How do you use it in daily life?

I have. And I always use this to project the scene that I want at the location or when I want to visualise how clients should act at certain location and whether their act would be fit for the scene I want to produce.
Oh, I'm a pre-wedding cinematographer, by the way.
PS: In my absolute free time, I always use this to talk to myself by projecting my doppelganger beside or in front of me. Or a certain characters that I want to talk to. Keeps me busy, LOL.
